SYLLOGISM EXHIBITION March 19 to April 7, 2011
Syllogism is a form of deductive reasoning, this doctrine of inference, first formulated by Aristotle brought me to thoughts of decision making in contemporary society.
As all our knowledge begins with sense, proceeds thence to understanding and ends with reason, one would anticipate empirical evidence would be sought before any public policy making or conclusions would be reached, however even when issues of public policy are discussed in the outward form of an argument, often the conclusions reached are predetermined by the assumptions and definitions inherent in a particular vision of social process, different views nullified and superseded by the views of the government..In this over regulated and obsessively litigious society there seems to be a complete inability to communicate.
Syllogism can also be defined as a subtle piece of reasoning, or one that seems true but is actually false or deceptive.
I see my work as a depiction of this lack of communication, and of the humour in our language today.
