Rotary Service Round Table Notes
The idea of this session is for clubs to share the types of projects and fundraisers they are doing that are successful to help spark new and innovative ideas throughout the district!

Fundraising or service to a group = fellowship/friendship

Group #1

What do you do?
-Books for the World
-Music Festival – Syracuse Sunrise – fundraising/service to the young musicians
-Nursing home visits monthly – play bingo, sing @ Christmas
-Interact Club sends kids to the nursing home for bingo – Sherrill Club
-Current magazines given to nursing homes with the Rotary logo & club info on them
-Christmas baskets of food for over 500 families
-Pour beer at Auburn Doubledays games
-Christmas at Bass Pro – ringing Salvation Army bells
-Cycling event to cure diabetes, joining with another club doing rest stop & organization
-Blizzard Bags –filling bags to take to people who will not receive meals on wheels during storms – filled with non-perishables
-Canalfest – 3 day event to raise money for coats, hats, etc. for underprivileged children
-Backpack program – three clubs are doing these
-Spaghetti dinners – 50% goes to community charity (with Kiwanis) and 50% to the food pantry
-Syracuse Nationals – sell programs at the gate, share the work with other clubs
-Holiday Mail for Heroes – sign card ot go to active service members, parent with another club & Red Cross
-5K race

Group #2

-Books for the World – clubs pack books, collect books and fundraise for shipping the books
-Polio Plus began as a service project with one club
-Adopt a section of the Erie Canal – clean, build benches, build trails – 2016 is 150 years of the Erie Canal so many clubs along the canal can do something related to that
-Built a nature trail by going to town and asking what they wanted
-State trails cleaned, branches pruned
-Shelterbox project – raised money for 5 Shelterboxes – display at school with boy scouts camping there for 2 days
-Dance with nursing home residents and interact
-Make fundraising & service projects fun
-Bring 2 students to each meeting – Top 100 students – then have a dinner for all of them at the end of the year

Group #3

-Adopted portion of Erie Canal – clean up 3 times per year, built benches
-CHAD residence, painted rooms, built outbuilding for storage
-Baltimore Woods upkeep and run
-Kid’s Christmas party – coats, hats, gloves, visit from Santa, presents & lunch
-Seneca River day – involves other community organizations
-4 kids from area high schoolseach join the club for 4 weeks – then an outstanding educator is nominated from those kids & there is an awards dinner
-Adopt a park – clean up, painting, new equipment with district grant
-Plant flowers in front of post office
-Built gazebo in park
-Supporting Honor Flight
-Winterfest supports local merchants with “Taste of Skaneateles” to encourage shopping
-Playground built for the community
-Walk in the Erie Canal Park – put up exercise stations
-Meals on Wheels involvement
-Food Bank help – publish in community newsletter

Group #4

-Food kitchen help – members and Interact kids – serviced lunch for 100+ needy people
-Nursing Home visits to play games and visit
-Backpacks packed with food for the weekend for needy kids (with Kiwanis)
-Memorial Day Solute – parade, rides, food – honor the veterans
-Honor Flight – also have exchange students go along
-Veteran’s center in Utica – purchase food, clothes, personal care items – help with their housing
-Good News Center – counseling for veterans and families
-Air Force Band coming to community for free concert sponsored by Rotary Club
-Firefighter of the Year Award & Police Officer of the Year Award
-Rotarians at Work sign made to put out when projects are being done
-Collect food at Thanksgiving
-Give Christmas gifts to veterans and families
-Food for thought programs – each community group takes a month to collect food & donations to give to needy
-Thanksgiving dinner the Wednesday before Thanksgiving – feed 400 people that would not have a holiday dinner otherwise
