La Jolla Cluster Association Board
Now Accepting Nominations for
2015-16 Muirlands Middle School Parent Representation
So many good things come from principals, teachers, and parents in our community working together. Nominations are now being accepted for Muirlands Middle School parent representatives to the 2015-16 Board of the La Jolla Cluster Association. All parent representatives must be elected annually. A paper or on-line election process is necessary if there are more than two qualified candidates. If only two qualified candidates are on the ballot, those two parents are automatically designated as representatives to the La Jolla Cluster Association (LJCA) Board.
The LJCA Board is comprised of two parent representatives, two teacher representatives, and the principal from each of the five La Jolla public schools. To ensure a fair and democratic election at Muirlands, parent nominations will be accepted via email from April 14 through April 30, 2015. Only parents or guardians of Muirlands students may nominate and vote in this election. To review the mission of LJCA, please visit www.Lajollacluster.com and click “About LJCA.”
In order to be nominated you must:
• Be a parent or guardian of a child presently enrolled at Muirlands.
• Have spent at least one year volunteering at Muirlands or another school within the La Jolla Cluster, this would include serving on a committee for a school Foundation, Governance, SSC, PTA, or as a classroom volunteer on a regular basis.
• Write a short bio of no more than 50 words that can be used on an election ballot if necessary. If you nominate someone else, that person has to accept the nomination and then write his/her own bio.
Responsibilities of parent representatives include:
- Attend LJCA full board meetings – approximately six annually (90-minute meetings)
- Participate in LJCA parent representative meetings, approximately six annually
- Help keep MMS population informed of cluster efforts by providing brief reports to school committees, and through e-blasts (shared responsibility with parent reps)
