My name is Sally Shoults. I am looking forward to getting to know your child, as well as partnering with you in your child’s education. Here are some frequently asked questions.

What is the Kindergarten Health Assessment? You must turn in your child’s Kindergarten Health Assessment as soon as possible. They will not be allowed to remain in school after 30 days, if you have not turned it in.

Do I need to send extra clothes for my child? Please make sure that you send in an extra set of clothes in a bag with your child’s name written on the bag. I sincerely hope that we never have to use them but it is great to have them in the class just in case. When the weather changes to being a bit cooler, please remember to send in a set of winter clothes, again, in a bag with your child’s name written on it.

How do I turn money into my child’s class? Place any money for school in an envelope or Ziploc bag labeled with child’s name and what it is for.

How do I send in notes pertaining to my child? Write notes to the teacher and place it in your child’s folder. We check through every child’s folder first thing every morning. We cannot go through each child’s backpack looking for things. There simply isn’t enough time to search through all of the nooks and crannies of so many backpacks.

What is the organizational/communication tool that will be used during the school year? All work and notes from school will be placed in your child’s folder at the end of every day. Please check your child’s folder every afternoon, take out any work or notes from school and return the folder to your child’s back pack. Your child will turn their folder in to us every morning. The folder contains items that assist with communication between home and school.

What should I do if my child needs to take any medications during school hours? If your child must take prescription medication at school, you must fill out ‘The Administration of Medication Form’ and bring the medicine to school. Please give the form and medicine to the front office or nurse. According to Onslow County policy, we are not allowed to give any medication to your child without having the proper form filled out and having the medicines go through the nurse.

How do I make sure that my child’s items are returned to them? Please write your child's name clearly on all personal items sent to school (supplies, coat, gloves, book bags, etc.) This will make sure all items are returned if they are misplaced!

What do I need to do if my child needs to leave school in some way other than their normal routine? You must provide your child's teacher with a written, signed, and dated note for any bus/pick-up changes. If someone else is to pick up your child other than yourself/spouse, you must provide a noteincluding his/her full name. They must also show proof of identification in theoffice.

What supplies does my child need? There is a list at Wal-Mart, Staples, or Office Max. The list is also on the school website.

How should I send money for lunch? Please put ALL money in a zipper baggie with their name written on it and place it in their daily folder. Please attach a note with the money so we know what it is for. I will check the folders daily to make sure that any money that you send in gets to the proper place. We will not ask your child if they have money in their bag and we cannot hunt for money in their bag. If you send a check, please make sure your address, phone number, and your child’s lunch number are on it. (We will let you know their lunch numbers as soon as we get them.)

What should my child bring to school on the first day? School supplies, a change of clothes (including underwear and socks) in a plastic bag with their name on it (in case of accidents or spills), a backpack, lunch money or a lunch, fees of $6 (if you did not already pay), and any forms that were not completed during orientation.

What are school hours? They are 6:55 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. The tardy bell rings at 7:20 a.m. If you would like for your child to eat breakfast at school please ensure they arrive at 6:55 a.m. That provides them enough time to eat and make it to class on time.

Will my child be able to have a snack during the school day? We have a snack time each day at or around 9:00. Students will need to bring a nutritious snack from home. Please make sure that their snack is quick and easy to eat. We do not have a lot of time for snack since we are halting some of our instruction time in order for them to have a quick snack. Your child may even have to nibble on their snack while they are working on some lessons or listening to a story. We will eat lunch roughly 2 hours after snack time so they won’t need a big snack. Some children opt to not have a snack at all – this is fine.

What do I do if my child has to be absent from school? If your child was absent, please send in a note. The note needs to include your child’s first and last name, date(s) of the absence, reason for the absence, and parent’s signature.

How can you contact me? If you have any more questions, please be sure to let me know. You may e-mail me anytime () and I will try to respond as quickly as possible. I do check my email periodically throughout the day and several times during nonschool days. There is not much down time for a Kindergarten teacher. I will respond just as quickly as I can. You can write a note and send it in your child’s daily folder. Also, you may call the school (910)-347-1056 and leave a message. It is very rare that I am able to leave my class in order to make or take phone calls. I will do my best to return calls as soon as I can. Emails are a much faster way for me to respond to your questions or concerns.

Thank you for your support. We are going to have a FANTASTIC year!
