STUDENTS DO SERVICE OVER SPRING BREAK

College students spend time serving in communities across the country

Not all college students hit the beach over their spring break. Over 1900 college students will serve communities across the country on a Pay it Forward tour over Spring Break this year.

[A sentence or two about the exact location of the place you are going. For example: Participants will be working with Feed My Starving Children in Chanhassen, Minn. March 4. as part of their spring break trip, a Pay it Forward tour.]

A Pay it Forward tour is a nine-day alternative spring break trip put on by the Minneapolis-based national nonprofit Students Today Leaders Forever. College students plan, lead and unite 40 participants on each bus, taking them from city to city and engaging in community service projects along the way.

“This set of Pay it Forward tours represents a growing number of youth committed to leadership, service, and a commitment to action,” Irene Fernando, STLF’s Director of Marketing and Human Resources, said. “I'm so excited for the future, knowing that the next generation is full of optimism and service."

Each college tour makes five individual stops before meeting up with other tours in a celebration city. [Include information on your celebration city and service project (if it's already known - New Orleans isn't for sure.) For example: The tour’s final stop is Washington, D.C. where participants will serve with the Earth Conservation Corp cleaning out a river. STLF has teamed with the ECC since it started in 2003, and each year STLF participants pull over 10 tons of garbage out of the river.]

Collectively over spring break, students will serve over 45,000 hours in 250 communities.

Students Today Leaders Forever is a Minneapolis-based nonprofit that engages young people in servant leadership. Cited by Time as the “Number Two Way to Serve America,” STLF’s Pay it Forward tours have reached hundreds of cities, engaged thousands of young people, and performed thousands of hours of service. With a mission to reveal leadership through service, relationships and action, STLF aims to energize generations of student leaders by providing meaningful experiences.
