This is to advise staff that effective immediately, the DCFS Transitional Housing Program (THP) for Homeless Young People may ONLY accept youth from the following living situations:
· Persons who came from the street or other location not meant for human habitation
· Person who came from Emergency Shelters
· Person who came from Safe Havens (a flexible-stay shelter that serves homeless, mentally ill)
· Persons in transitional housing programs who came directly from the street, Emergency Shelters or Safe Havens
Thus, discharging youth directly from foster care placement into the DCFS Transitional Housing Program is no longer an option for regional staff. However, the DCFS THP will continue to support regional staff efforts to find appropriate transitional housing for your youth. Attached are lists of other transitional housing providers for youth (list), youth with mental health issues (list) and pregnant and/or parenting youth (list). These programs are able to accept youth directly from foster care placement. Also, it is anticipated that, early next year, additional beds will be available for youth coming directly from placement.
