Prom Preparation

Prom is just around the corner and students are getting excited about the most anticipated event of the year. From picking out dresses and tuxes to finding a date, there are many things one needs to do in order to get ready for prom. So, how do Kimball students get ready for prom?

For girls, there are a lot of things that have to be paid for in preparation for prom. Anuja Varghese, senior, said,” I tried to save my money this year and so I tried to keep my budget under $200 for everything I needed! They weren’t joking when they said senior year is really expensive.” Prom, in all costs 130 dollars a ticket. Kimball student, Nicole Chin, said, “I had to save up my allowance to pay for the ticket to prom. It took a lot of work around the house to have it add up.”Aside from the ticket itself, dresses usually cost somewhere around $100-$300! Picking a dress is the most challenging part of preparing for prom. One can go to stores such as Group USA or Macy’s, or find a variety online. All in all, one will eventually find a beautiful dress that defines them. There are also several other things girls may want to buy as well. Varghese listed, “I need at least a straightener or curler for my hair, makeup (at least like eyeliner, mascara, and foundation) and my contacts!” Prom is definitely a time consuming event to prepare for!

Not only do girls have a lot to plan for, but guys do as well. According to senior, Derrick Ko, he estimates that all of his prom essentials will cost $350. A suit definitely costs a lot.Ko said, “I found my suit at Macy’s. I knew it was the one I wanted because it felt like the right one.” According to tradition, it is known that the guy has to ask the girl to prom. Whether this be in an extravagant or sweet simple way, guys have a lot of pressure on making their “promposal” one to remember. This could take weeks of planning! However, Ko supports the fact that it is perfectly fine to go with friends. Having no prom date is not the end of the world, and having friends by your side is just as fun! An anonymous Kimball student said, “My parents pressured me into finding a date to prom. But I realized that having a date isn’t as important as I thought and I could have a lot of fun with my friends.”

As you can see, there is a lot to put into consideration when thinking about prom. From paying the prom deposits to getting dressed up, there are numerous ways to prepare. April 18th is coming your way! Throughout all this hard work and planning, prom will definitely pay off in the end. Get ready, Kimball! Prom will be a night to remember.
