Global Child Health Fellowship- Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply for this Fellowship, one must meet the following criteria:

  1. A) Professional degree (e.g., MD, MBBS, nursing, etc.): Clinical fellowsare expected to have completed either a post-graduate degree (e.g. MPH, MSc Epidemiology, or related discipline), or have significant scholarly experience within one of the following focus areas: research, capacity building through education, or knowledge translation, advocacy and policy.

OR

B) Post-Doctoral (e.g. PhD Epidemiology, Nutritional Sciences, or related discipline): Non-clinical fellows are expected to have demonstrated exemplary scholarship within one of the following focus areas: research, capacity building through education, or knowledge translation, advocacy and policy.

  1. If the applicant’s career trajectory includes clinical duties (e.g. MDs., nurses, etc.), the applicant must be associated with ahospital-based clinical program during the fellowship, or be able to demonstrate the ability to maintain clinical competence.
  1. Have shown significant interest and exemplary scholarship in global child health.

Global Child Health Fellows will have academic, educational, and mentorship opportunities in child health throughout the two-year fellowship. They will be expected to choose an area of research or scholarship that aligns with either Research or Capacity Building through Education; fellowswill gain expertise in both domains as well as the Knowledge Translation, Advocacy, and Policy.

While the Centre for Global Child Health will provide salary support for the duration of the 2-year appointment, successful applicants will be expected to apply to funding agencies and grants in the year leading up to their fellowship. Members of the Centre will be available to support grant, fellowship, and research competition applications.

Curriculum vitae should include the following headings and sub-headings:

  • Publications, presentations at conferences/meetings, and teaching experience (sub-headings)
  • Honours, Awards, Grants, and Academic Distinction

Additional headings and sub-headings may be included.

Letters of Intent

Letters of intent should highlight the applicant’s scholarly activities and performance, as well as their direct and/or indirect experience working in global health and/or global child health. If applicants are keen to work on a particular topic and/or existing project at the C-GCH (refer to the C-GCH website for more information), they should make this clear in the letter of intent. Letters of intent should also include a statement regardingthe applicant’scareer goals and training expectations for the global child health fellowship. Applicants should also describe how they thinkthe C-GCH fellowship program will enhance their professional development. Clinical applicants should provide information regarding their proposed clinical work during the time of the fellowship. Letters of intent should not exceed a length of 2 pages, single-spaced.

Reference Letters

Reference Letters should speak to a candidate’s clinical and/or research skills (if applicable). Referees should highlight the candidate’s previous interest and/or experience in global child health, their capacity for research and scholarship, leadership qualities, and their potential for success working in global child health.
