Development of Childminder Networks

There are 25 childminders signed up to the East Hampshire network, with a further 9 undergoing assessment. 19 childminders offer Community Childminding and 17 are accredited nursery education providers.

Development of extended schools activities and out of school/holiday provision.

There were a range of Extended School activities running across the council area for the extended schools clusters over the Summer holidays. Some also run after school, some during the half term holidays and some during the Christmas break. These include a range of activities. For further information on extended schools refer to their website http://www3.hants.gov.uk/education/extended-schools.htm

East Hampshire Council leisure centres regularly provide holiday playschemes for 4-11 year olds. East Hampshire Council ran “GetActiv8d”, daily activities during the Summer Holidays along with the Rural Area Play Project van taking play & leisure activities to rural villages for children aged 4-16. Attendance across the borough was generally high; in total 704 5-12 year olds, 493 0-4 year olds and 246 adults attended the RAPP project over the 9 day period with 24 families from Black and Minority Ethnic groups.

Parental demand

There have been no specific unmet needs for parents this quarter.

Other

Whitehill Bordon has been awarded ECO-town status which will attract investment jobs and facilities. A draft masterplan of the town is now under consultation.

Conclusion

There has been little change in the childcare market this quarter (July to September 2010). No new provision has opened. Two childminders closed with a loss of six childminding spaces.

Overall parents needs are being met by current provision.

The development and sustainability of registered Out of school places are most at risk as parents are choosing to take up the extensive range of activities offered by schools and the local council.
