A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Angelo Henderson.

WHEREAS, Angelo Henderson was a proud native of Louisville, Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, Angelo Henderson was a 1985 graduate of the University of Kentucky. He studied magazine publishing at Howard University in Washington, D.C., and attended Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government and the Harvard Divinity School; and

WHEREAS, Angelo Henderson was president of Angelo Ink, a writing, speaking, and media consulting firm; and

WHEREAS, Angelo Henderson was a former National Association of Black Journalists national officer, board member, and chapter president; and

WHEREAS, Angelo Henderson was a gifted talk radio host in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Henderson hosted one of Detroit's most popular radio shows, "Your Voice with Angelo Henderson"; and

WHEREAS, Angelo Henderson was also an accomplished journalist. In 1998, while working with the Detroit Bureau of the Wall Street Journal, Henderson wrote an article about an armed robbery at a pharmacy in northwest Detroit. The story won him a Pulitzer Prize, and would catapult him into a distinguished career as a radio host and one of the most renowned public figures in Detroit; and

WHEREAS, Angelo Henderson was rightfully honored for his work as a commentator and a radio personality. He was inducted into the University of Kentucky's Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame. In June 2000, he was honored by Columbia University as one of America's best reporters on ethnicity. He was also named one of 39 African-American Achievers to Watch in the Next Millennium by SuccessGuide Magazine, appearing alongside such distinguished young African-Americans as Michael Eric Dyson and Tavis Smiley; and

WHEREAS, Angelo Henderson departed this earthly life on February 15, 2014, leaving his family, friends, and an entire community in solemn mourning; and

WHEREAS, Angelo Henderson was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby and Roger Henderson. He is survived by his cherished wife, Felicia Dixon Henderson, and his son, Grant;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSection 1. The members of the Senate, both individually and collectively, express their most profound and sincere condolences upon the passing of Angelo Henderson, and extend their heartfelt sympathy to his family in this time of loss.

âSection 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of Angelo Henderson.

âSection 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Senator Gerald Neal for delivery.
