Increased efficiency, reduced costs
Telematics solutions for the entire truck and trailer combination from BPW and idem telematics
Wiehl/Hanover, 23.9.2014 --- Transportation is efficient when all processes, from scheduling and loading to transportation, are perfectly co-ordinated, and trucks and trailers run reliably, economically and with calculable costs. At the IAA 2014 the BPW Group is putting the mobility of transport companies in the spotlight.
As a mobility partner for shipping companies and fleet operators, BPW's innovative telematics solutions for the entire truck and trailer combination are the basis for greater transparency, security and efficiency in fleet management. By merging truck and trailer telematics solutions, idem telematics collects information and delivers it to where it is needed: to the driver and the shipping company. Data is evaluated and prepared so that transport companies receive tailored information relevant to their needs.
Integrating telematics into business processes enables transport and logistics companies to increase the security and transparency of their transportation and loading processes. One example of this is the electromechanical door locking system which allows monitoring of door activity: firstly the telematics application provides real-time information about where the vehicle is located, and secondly the locking and unlocking of the rear door can be controlled by the telematics system in order to protect the cargo from unauthorised access. In addition, all door activity data remains available online for up to 18 months.
However, as each industry has different requirements, the BPW Group provides special telematics applications with, for example, continuous trailer temperature monitoring for shipments of foodstuffs or pharmaceuticals. In addition, there are logistics applications for drivers dealing with orders and navigation.
The BPW Group also supports shipping companies when it comes to predictive maintenance planning. The basis for this is the “knowledge” gleaned from the truck and trailer: data collected by BPW via sensors placed on running gear and superstructures can be processed into useful information via telematics. Amongst other things, sensors continuously measure the wear on each wheel’s brake lining. When the wear limit is reached, the driver and the shipping company are informed in a timely manner. Drivers are notified through a display device in the cab. Shipping companies receive the information through an online portal or their own IT system. In addition, alarm messages can be received as push messages via SMS, via email or through an app.
In such instances, BPW’s worldwide service network of more than 3,200 service partners guarantees short reaction times and rapid, reliable availability of spare parts.
