Hangzhou Normal University

Founded as a teacher training school in 1908, Hangzhou Normal University has a history of over 100 years, which has bestowed the institution with a glorious tradition of producing first-rate teachers and educators at different levels for the whole Chinese nation. Through a century’s development, the University has now become a comprehensive institution of higher education with a full spectrum of disciplines, covering such areas as arts and sciences, humanities, education, music, engineering, information technology, business, law, medicine and nursing.

Program Description

The China Studies Program(CSP) at HNU provides students with a comprehensive learning experience that combines China Studies courses, visiting E-commerce enterprises, Chinese Kung Fu and field trips.

Language of Intruction: English

Credits: 8 credits in total

Four China Studies courses(1 credit respectively), Chinese Kung Fu(1 credit), Three field trips(1 credit respectively)

Course Description of 2016 China Studies Summer Program

中国互联网经济（China's Internet Economy）

互联网经济已成为中国经济新的增长点。本课程主要内容为中国互联网经济的起源和发展现状、互联网在中国各经济领域的应用（零售、金融、医疗、房地产等）、中国主要的互联网公司（阿里巴巴、腾讯、百度）、移动互联网在中国的发展、中国互联网经济未来的发展方向等。

China's Internet Economy: Internet economy has become a new growth point of China's economy. The content of this course includes the origins and development of China's Internet economy, the application of Internet in various areas of China's economy (retail, finance, healthcare, real estate, etc.), China's leading Internet companies (Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu), the development of mobile Internet in China, the future of China's Internet economy.

中国城镇化发展（Chinese urbanization development）

中国目前正大力推行城镇化建设，本课程主要介绍了中国城镇化的发展历程、主要问题和中国新型城镇化建设的未来。包括：中国城镇化发展历程、中国农民工就业问题、中国土地城镇化和人口城镇化、中国户籍制度、中国城镇化的公共服务供给不足问题、中国特色城镇化发展道路的未来。

Chinese urbanization development: China is now vigorously promoting urbanization. This course introduces the process of China's urbanization, the main problems of China’s urbanization and the future of China's new urbanization. The content includes: the development process of China's urbanization, the employment problem of migrant workers, the synchronization problem of land urbanization and population urbanization, Chinese household registration system, the shortage of public service provision, the future development of urbanization with Chinese characteristics.

中国改革开放专题（China’s Reform and Opening）

本课程将向学生提供中国改革开放的完整图景。整个课程围绕两个问题展开：中国的改革是如何开展的？在改革推进过程中，政府和社会及其之间的关系发生了什么样的变迁？我们将从介绍改革发生的背景开始，然后逐一深入到各个发生了深刻改革的领域当中：地方政府、国有企业、私营部门、国际贸易。最后，我们将讨论改革及其所带来的经济增长给中国社会和政治发展带来的深刻影响。

This course will provide a comprehensive analytical and empirical discussion on China’s economic reform. Two main questions are addressed: How did China implement economic reform? What were the state and society relationships during the reform era? The course first offers a background discussion of China’s politics before the economic reform: the land reform, the Great Leap Forward, and the Cultural Revolution. Topics included state’s role in economic reform, the local governments, state-owned enterprises, private sectors, and international linkages. After that, the course discusses China’s political development in the context ofeconomic growth.

中国民俗（Chinese Folklore）

民俗学是一门研究人类社会中普遍存在的民众传承性生活模式和文化的国际性人文学科。中国民俗这门课程主要内容包括中国民俗的起源和特点、中国民俗的分类、中国传统文化、中国传统宗教、中国传统艺术、中国科举制度、中国传统节日、中国传统礼仪、中国饮食文化等。通过本课程的学习，学生可以了解中国民俗的历史和现状，感受中国传统的生活习惯和生存哲学，加深对中国历史文化和基本国情的认识和理解，为进一步学习中国文化打好基础。

Chinese Folklore: Folklore is the study of a nation’s inheritance lifestyle and traditional culture. This course includes the origins and characteristics of Chinese folk, Chinese traditional culture, Chinese traditional religion, Chinese traditional art, Chinese imperial examination system, Chinese traditional festival, Chinese traditional etiquette, Chinese food culture. Through this course, students can learn about the history and current situation of Chinese folk, feel the traditional Chinese lifestyle and philosophy of survival, learn more about Chinese history and culture, strengthen the awareness and understanding of the basic national conditions.
