  • Meeting called to order at 7:06 p.m. – Chaired by Phil Clarke

  • The November board meeting minutes were approved.
  • A motion by Pat Coady was tabled to approve the minutes

a)President’s Update – Phil Clarke

  • Phil welcomes everyone and introduces Dom Bueti, an NGHA member, who is thinking of volunteering at the Board level.
  • Upcoming key dates
  • January 31 – OD President’s Council Meeting
  • February 8 – OD ice to be submitted for playoffs
  • February 24 – OW ice for playdowns to be submitted
  • April 2 – OD Championships
  • April 8-9 – Provincials
  • April 10 – MOGHL
  • April 23-24 - Easter
  • PWHL
  • Letter submitted for next season
  • PW not renewing membership for Hamilton/Markham
  • New team to be introduced next year
  • MOGHL

  • Playdown schedules now up
  • Atom AA, Atom BB teams have a buy to provincials this year
  • Tournament
  • Schedules and teams submitted to the OW
  • Competitive teams at Bell Sensplex – ice bookings completed
  • Novice B, Atom B and Bantam BB divisions cancelled due to lack of teams
  • Website is ready to go for the tournament – Username and password to be giving to Lisa DiNardo by Mary Lou
  • Heather was approached by a Bantam team to conduct a fundraiser at the tournament but it was decided that the we could not accommodate this at the tournament but it could be done separately
  • Chantal Mallette contact Phil Clark to advise him that competitive teams must contact Chantal to arrange refs for playdowns

b)Program report– Pat Coady

  • Nothing new to report

c)Registration – Joanne Erbach

  • Joanne wants to put a note on all registration confirmations to address the issue of NSF cheques that the organization has had to deal with in the past
  • Next month will be busy – need to decide the fees for registration, programs, etc
  • Tax receipts to be issued in the coming weeks – ask Paul Brennan to print off tax receipts
  • Two more payments need to be entered into the system and then an email can be sent to Paul regarding the receipts
  • Question raised – Can we add VISA as a payment option? It would increase registration fees up by $8.
  • Mary Lou to look into the additional cost?
  • Joanne to look at the wording of the $120 team fee – withinthe manual/guidelines

ACTION– Joanne to contact Paul Brennan with regards to printing off receipts

ACTION – Mary Lou to look into the costs associated with adding visa as a payment option

d)Ice– Mike Doiron

  • Tournament Ice
  • looks like 13 hours of ice will be burned due to three divisions being cancelled
  • 10 hours of ice on Friday – 3 hours on Saturday
  • Summary of the available ice to be sent out in an email to see if any teams want to pick up these ice times
  • OD playdowns want all ice by Monday from every team in NGHA plus one
  • Phil sent email to Karen Parker to confirm wording of this request from the OD (see above bullet)
  • Playoffs - OD ice due February 8th;
  • MOGHL playoffs beginning February 28th
  • Very little ice available for the month of February
  • Game schedules a bit crazy for the month of February as well. Some teams have as many as 7 games in Feb. due to re-scheduling
  • February ice to be released shortly > has been held back a bit until all information comes in regarding ice
  • It has been a challenge for extra ice availability for playoffs/playdowns

e)Development– Jason Corrigan/Steve Wolfe

  • Goalie clinic
  • has about 27 goalies attending from all levels
  • Clinics being run by CDG – parents are paying for it
  • #’s to increase next year
  • January 31 – Goalie coach clinic; posted on the website by Mary Lou
  • CSM
  • Phil and Jason negotiating contract for next year
  • Expressed some concerns
  • Waiting for survey to come back from all parents/players to address any concerns or issues
  • Head instructor being replaced for next year
  • Jason can ask CSM to provide a 7-8 practice plans that coaches can choose from
  • March Break
  • Depending on ice availability, trying to organize some clinics
  • Also the possibility of a goalie clinic with Greg Bowles
  • Coaching clinic
  • Poorly attended
  • Focused on ½ ice practices
  • Possibility that the poor attendance was due to the fact that Hockey Canada released a ½ practice Manual
  • Targeted to those new in the association, as well
  • Jay would like to make these sessions mandatory
  • Build it into the Association to have some attendance at various clinics
  • Have it incorporated into the interview process as well and add it as an assignment that needs to be completed
  • Tell coaches again at the coaches meeting
  • Mandate one coach from each team to attend
  • Possibly offer it up at the beginning of the year
  • The material that was created to be circulated out to all coaches

f)Equipment – Alex Kincaid

  • Nothing new to report

ACTION: Alex to contact Bell Arena to see if we get our storage room back

g)Finance– Trina Lepine

  • Three outstanding ice invoices from a while ago
  • List of jersey deposits/goalie (7 outstanding)
  • Ice payouts
  • $57,000 paid out to Carleton U
  • $51,975 paid to Ottawa U
  • $172,000 to City of Ottawa
  • Reconciliation needed to see what uce was returned vs. what was used
  • Fundamentals is paid

h)Competitive Report – Jay Greco

  • No issues to report
  • No games the first w/e of March Break (Friday – Friday)
  • Teams can expect to have playoff games the second weekend of the March Break
  • Reclassified teams
  • Atom A > Atom AA
  • Atom B > Atom BB
  • Novice B > Reclassification denied – remaining a B team

ACTION – NGHA seeking legal advice regarding a disciplinary issue and all parties involved will be suspended indefinitely until the Discipline committee delivers its final ruling

i)House League Report – Trish Calof/Heather McEwan

  • Nothing new to report
  • Fair play ice policy for goalies > Greg Bowles to word-smith the clause that currently exists; once that comes back, Phil & Steve to review it and then bring it to the Board for review. Then, get it into the policy for the new season’s registration

j)Publicity / Fundraising – Lynn Carroll

  • Lynn was absent from the meeting – nothing to report
