Developmental crises are normal developmental events in which a change or transition leads to a crisis response
Situational crises take place when a sudden, unpredictable, and uncontrollable event takes place. Examples include automobile accidents, a crime, job loss, hostage situations, sexual victimization, and culture shock.
Existential crises revolve around such themes as one's sense of purpose, meaning, or personal freedom. They are inner conflicts, rather than outside stressors.
