MISSISSIPPI MAGNOLIA CPCU SOCIETY CHAPTER

August 27, 2013

Mission Statement

The Mississippi Magnolia Chapter of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters is dedicated to meeting the needs of professionals who have earned, and those who are pursuing the CPCU designation so that those individuals may serve the public and the property casualty industry in a competent and ethical manner.

Minutes:

President Scott Catington called the meeting to order.

President-Elect Jerry Horner gave the invocation.

Guest Matt Dunlap was welcomed. Matt works at EMC. He received his CPCU designation in June 2013.

Committee Reports:

Candidate Recruitment and Development – Dan Gleason – No report.

Education – Missy Elam - Missy Elam reported that the CPCU 540 class John Noel is teaching has 7 students. This class has been approved for 15 hours CE credit. Three of the CE hours are for ethics.

Public Relations/Visibility – Matthew Koury – Matthew Koury reported that they are waiting for the ad from the Society/Institutes.

Scholarship - Frankie Box – Frankie Box reported that we received two scholarship applications; one from Mississippi State and one from the University of Mississippi. Frankie will award the scholarships on September 19, 2013 at the I-day reception at the Country Club of Jackson.

Webmasters – Jeff McGee/Donna Glover – No report.

Treasurer - Frank Scott – Balance of checking account as of 8/26/2013 is $2,596.87. Balance of Eighteen month CD with maturity date is 09/21/2014 is $3,174.77. Total funds are $5,771.64. We had one time expenses due to the chapter reorganization of $400.00 (IRS) and $879.51 (CPCU Society).

Vice President – Jay Thames – No report.

President-Elect – Jerry Horner – Jerry will get a speaker for the September meeting.

New Business:

The minutes from the June 25, 2013 meeting were approved by a voice vote after a motion to approve was made and seconded.

A CPCU logo shirt was presented to Frank Scott. Frank won the shirt at the June meeting.

President Scott Catington recommended that we file all of our future CPCU test prep classes for CE credit. The cost will be $50.00 per class.

President Scott Catington suggested that we look at the possibility of having a breakfast meeting in 2014. A survey will be sent to the Chapter members to see how many members are interested in having a breakfast meeting.

President Scott Catington wants to form an ad hoc committee to look into our Chapter offering seminars to raise money for the chapter. Seminar in a box is still in the pilot stage, but there are seminars that the Institute offers for which it provides the speaker and the program. Scott would like the ad hoc committee to investigate this.

Joe S. Shumaker, Manager of the Mississippi State Rating Bureau, was the speaker at the August 2013 meeting.

Other Business:

Short meeting with Board of Directors and Committee Chairpersons following the conclusion of this meeting.

Next chapter meeting will be on September 24, 2013. Speaker tba.
