Reports to: Network Administrator

I.POSITION SUMMARY: The Network / Computer Systems Specialist will work under the direction of the Network Administrator and the Director of Information Technology Services in the management of local and wide area networking and servers at the college. The Network / Computer Systems Specialist will also assist in providing training, technical assistance, consulting and other related services within this area.

II.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Recommends and assists in providing training of faculty and staff.
  2. Provides technical assistance and consulting.
  3. Installs and maintains personal computer hardware.
  4. Installs and maintains personal computer operating systems and application software.
  5. Assists in the design and maintenance of Cisco network infrastructure and WiFiand other network systems.
  6. Assists in the installation and maintenance of network operating systems.
  7. Assists in analyzing requirements and preparation of proposals for system projects.
  8. Troubleshoots network and P.C. related problems.
  9. Assists in the purchasing of related products.
  10. Assists in the design of mission critical and non-critical applications.
  11. Remains up-to-date with new technology that may be utilized by the college.
  12. Generates and maintains documentation on the college networks.
  13. Maintains all DNS, firewall, mail and mail gateway servers, email retention system, SAN, VMware servers, and application software.
  14. Maintains Mac lab and server.
  15. Maintains all AD user accounts on the network.
  16. Performs additional related work duties as assigned.

III.QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s Degree in Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be obtained
  • Broad knowledge of local and wide area networking and data communications
  • Broad knowledge of several operating systems
  • Broad knowledge of personal computers and related topics
  • Ability to provide leadership on assigned projects
  • Broad knowledge of the Unix operating system and its use on various computing platforms

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with specific coursework in Computer Science
  • Additional coursework or training on the latest computer and networking technology
  • Experience in programming
