A Program of Mesa Arts Center and Arizona State University’s School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies in Partnership with Jazz at Lincoln Center. Jazz from A to Z students chose a “jazzy” topic related to the NHD theme, conduct research and present their scholarship in one of four ways: exhibit, performance, documentary, or web site. Students, with the help from Jazz from A to Z’s community of scholars and ASU’s history education students, entered their projects in Arizona’s National History Day competition. MOORS, Memory and the Museum:

MOORS, Memory and the Museumasks high school students to analyze genocide testimony in instances of mass atrocity for the planned museum for the Holocaust and Human Dignity Museum in Chandler, Arizona.The project work includes analyzing and reporting on testimonies from online collections. Curating the City: Citizen Social Science and Humanities:

Curating the City engages students in the self-contained gifted programs atCarson Junior High School within the Mesa Public Schools, in grades 7-8, teaching approximately 80 studentshistorical thinking and research skills and the techniques of public history. Students at Carson create interpretive stories about the history, community, and environment in Mesa (place-based storytelling). These stories will be connected to “tours” that emanate from the light rail system and move through the fabric of Mesa. Research assistant, teacher liaison(2014-present)

Youth Leadership Program with Azerbaijan: Collaboration of ASU’s Melikian Center with American Councils for International Education in a short-term cultural and educational exchange program of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, expanding relationships between U.S. and Azerbaijani students, educators, and communities. Project recruiter, homestay coordinator, presenter (2011-2013)

The Pride: CombinedBlock students at Red Mountain High School (RMHS) and history education students Arizona State University, with local experts to document, archive, and exhibit the history of RMHS in the Mesa community, in celebration of Arizona’s Centennial.
