SCHOOL GOVERNANCE COUNCIL UPDATE: An update on the amazing work that School Governance Council is doing, Sweet Apple was awarded $93,000 for a Professional Learning Community (PLC) Specialist for the 2017-2018 school year. The award also include money in order to allow for teachers to have grade level time together and further PLC development. With this position teachers will have a specialist that will work with teachers regularly onimproving instructional practices, analyzingstudent data, and better plan to meet the needs of all students.

PARENT DID YOU KNOW?: Did you that Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) are groups of teachers that come together weekly to focus on three Big Ideas: 1) Ensuring that all students are learning at their highest potential, 2) Creating a culture of collaboration, and 3) Focusing on Results. During this time, teachers are looking at common assessments, comparing data, lesson planning, and analyzing best instructional practices. From Timperley (2008), researcher in the field of education, states“Findings from many studies suggest that participation in a professional community with one’s colleagues is an integral part of professional learning that impacts positively on students." (Timperley, 2008, p. 19) With our focus as a school as doing what is best for students, PLCs are a driving force in impacting all students in the classrooms. At Sweet Apple we began implementing PLC’s over the last three years and we will continue to embed it within our school culture to ensure that we are successfully meeting the needs of all students.

Have a great long weekend and we’ll see students back on Tuesday.
