Training of staff caring for newborn infants in the Network.
Key Relationships: / Network Board members, nursing education facilitator, provider Trust neonatologists (especially RCPCH tutors and unit training directors) and those responsible for training locally, Therapist training personnel, links with the RCPCH training committee

Remuneration: / 2-3 sessions/week or equivalent remunerated by agreement with employing Trust
Main Purpose of the Role: / To oversee, coordinate and implement a training and assessment programme for junior doctors to ensure that current standards of training are met.
To work in conjunction with nursing education facilitators and therapists to enhance interdisciplinary working in the neonatal units.

Key Tasks:

·  To define the competencies in liaison with RCPCH, nurses and therapists

·  To design the training programs suitable for junior doctors, therapists and nurses of different levels working together.

·  To define the assessment program for the above.

·  To work closely with provider neonatal consultants responsible for training to ensure implementation.

·  To encourage providers to keep a database of existing skills and a program of updating them.

·  Work with the nursing and therapist education facilitators to ensure that training and assessment standards are consistent across speciality to allow seamless interdisciplinary working.

·  To facilitate education programs for the network such as study days in which more specialist knowledge can be acquired.

·  To broaden the educational role to include clinical governance processes

·  To keep up to date with government educational strategy and maintain strong links with the Deanery and RCPCH

Requirements / Essential / Desirable
Knowledge:
·  Consultant neonatologist employed by one of the provider Trusts within the network.
·  Knowledge of the current and potential changes in neonatal medical education and working patterns.
·  Qualification in medical education.
·  Experience as RCPCH tutor or unit training director or equivalent.
·  Experience of leading changes in working patterns for junior doctors. / Ö

Skills / Abilities:
·  Proven and recognised interest and expertise in neonatal medical education.
·  Understanding of neonatal nursing educational and development requirements.
·  Willingness to visit all sites at regular intervals to oversee the programme and working patterns.
·  Previous involvement in neonatal / perinatal care research. / Ö

·  Must be able to commit four dedicated session per week.
