The Past Comes to Life as UPS’s Vintage Package Car Steers Into Hong Kong Disneyland’s Main Street, U.S.A.
HONG KONG (October 4, 2006) – UPS made a special delivery to Hong Kong Disneyland today as a replica vintage UPS Ford Model T delivery car arrived at the theme Park. The vehicle was popular in the U.S. in the early 20th century and is the exact model of UPS’s first acquired delivery car in 1913.
In a ceremonial handover on Main Street, U.S.A. where the vintage vehicle will be displayed, Brian Cusson, Senior Vice President of North District, UPS Asia Pacific Region, presented Bill Ernest, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, with a quaint, old-fashioned key to the car.
Bill said, “Of this era, Walt Disney once said, ‘America was in transition; the discoveries of the late 19th century were changing our way of life.’ The UPS Ford Model T represents such amazing discoveries and progress and we’re honored to introduce this unique replica to our living tribute of small town America – Main Street, U.S.A.
“Our guests are sure to be delighted with this seamless addition and we thank UPS for their generosity in contributing to Main Street, U.S.A.’s charming and historical ambience.”
Brian added, “Besides bringing the best in express delivery services to the theme park, UPS is also proud to be the Official Sponsor of the Hong Kong Disneyland Railroad Station. The replica Ford Model T on display at the Park is the first-ever package car acquired by UPS. We hope its historical significance will enhance the experience of guests at the Park."

The rebuilt vehicle comprised mainly original parts and is painted in the signature UPS brown that is today synonymous with its service reliability and excellence. The car also features genuine hand-applied gold leaf lettering and graphics.
The Ford Model T was the first automobile used by UPS for package deliveries in 1913 and remains one of the single most popular car models ever produced. The Model T has changed very little from the first one made in 1908 to the last one in 1927, which sold for as low as US$290 in those days.
From October 5, the UPS Ford Model T will become a feature in Town Square where guests can enhance their magical experience at the Park by posing for snapshots next to this memorable piece of history.
As the Official Express Delivery Sponsor of Hong Kong Disneyland, UPS also offers guests a chance to share a touch of Disney’s magic with their family and friends without having to leave the theme park. Gifts and souvenirs can be sent from the UPS Package Express Service conveniently located at the Guest Relations Building outside the entrance gate. The package express service is also offered at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and Disney’s Hollywood Hotel.

About the Ford Model T
Just as Walt Disney was a visionary in terms of family entertainment, Henry Ford was a visionary in terms of automobile production. Henry did not invent the automobile, nor did he invent the assembly line production. However, he did change the world by using an assembly line technique to produce cars which could be afforded by everyone. As a result, Ford made 16 Million Model Ts in North America between 1907 and 1929.
