Monday, May 9
Topic/Objectives: Unit 5 Lessons 1 and 2 in text. (pages 270-321) The objectives in Unit 5 Lessons 1 and 2 include: talking about personal items, talking about requirements, expressing what does and doesn’t exist, say what would or would not happen, report what someone said, and talk about the day’s activities. These objectives are completed along with the following grammar topics: present subjunctive of regular and irregular verbs; the conditional tense, and the interrogatives Qué and Cuál. Vocabulary in this unit focuses on personal possessions, computers and the internet, verb used to talk about requirements, and talking about daily activities.
In-Class Activities: “Músicalunes” - “Control”- by Wisin and Pitbull.. Reading comprehension activity - “Mural del Club” - students read a bulletin board advertising participation in student clubs, then answer comprehension questions. Students will also write in Spanish which club he/she would join, and why. Listening Activity: students will listen to a 1 minute conversation in Spanish, and will record answers to questions based on the conversation. Students will be listening for which vocabulary items the speaker has, and whether statements are true or false, based on the conversation. The goal of this activity is to help students auditorially distinguish vocabulary words. Notes: The Use of the Subjunctive Mood with Adverbial Conjunctions”. Complete Activities 1 and 2 on “Did You Get It?” worksheet to practice the use of the subjunctive mood with conjunctions like “unless”, “without”, “in order to”, etc.

In-Class Activities: Review homework worksheet /answer questions from yesterday. Focus today will be on using subjunctive mood with conjunctions/adverbial phrases. Complete Did You Get It worksheet, writing sentences like “You bring an umbrella in case it rains.”
“You gather ingredients before you start cooking.” The Subjunctive Mood with Conjunctions #1 has students completing sentences with the subjunctive after conjunctions. Some sentences are missing the conjunction, some are missing the subjunctive verb.

In-Class Activities: Miáucoles internet meme. On The Subjunctive Mood with Conjunctions #2, students will be given 3 scenarios (driving, cooking, preparing for a test), then will write sentences with conjunctions and the subjunctive mood. Notes: The Subjunctive Mood and the Unknown. Students will learn about using the subjunctive mood in sentences like “I am looking for a book about carrots.”, and “Do you have a computer that is small?” Students will learn to differentiate between verbs, comparing sentences like “I know a boy who speaks Spanish.” v “I am looking for a boy who speaks Spanish.” Did You Get It worksheet will review sentences in Spanish, where students decide whether or not the subjunctive mood is needed.

In-Class Activities: Review homework from yesterday. Complete Tweets in Spanish worksheet. Students are given a set of tweets (from Twitter) in Spanish. They will circle the subjunctive verbs found in the tweets, then determine what the original infinitive was. This is a vital skill in this chapter, as the subjunctive verbs are identified by the change in vowel from the original verb infinitive. Complete “Did You Get It” worksheet with subjunctive verbs used with the unknown. Students will be working on sentences like “I need….I want….”, “I am looking for….” v “I have…”
