Job Title: Research Associate/Research Fellow
School/Department: School of Veterinary Medicine and Science
Salary: Salary: £25,513 - £37,394 per annum, depending on skills and experience (£28,695 per annum minimum with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.
Job Family and Level: Research and Teaching Level 4.
Contract Status: Fixed term funding for a period of 12 months from 1st June 2015
Hours of Work: Full-time (36.25 hours)
Location: Sutton Bonington Campus
Reporting to: Marnie Brennan
Purpose of the New Role:
To collect research data from dairy farmers in relation to disease prevention and control measures.
Main Responsibilities / % time per year1. / To conduct research at the highest level in accordance with the aims and objectives of the DairyCo research partnership, that will lead to peer-reviewed publications of international quality / 25%
2. / Specifically, plan and distribute a questionnaire to dairy cattle farmers on disease prevention and control measures and analyse the data gathered from the questionnaire / 35%
3. / To operate as an effective team player and to be accountable to the line manager on progress and daily running of the project to ensure timely delivery of outcomes according to the project work plan / 15%
4. / To contribute to administrative work related to the DairyCo research partnership / 5%
5. / Generate project reports and present conference papers at national and/or international conferences / 10%
To contribute to training of undergraduate and postgraduate students / 5%
6. / To update professional skills as appropriate and relevant in support of research excellence / 5%
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Essential / DesirableQualifications/ Education / A veterinary undergraduate degree
A PhD (or equivalent) in the area of dairy cattle vaccination or biosecurity is required. However, candidates who are in the process of submitting their PhD thesis will also be considered.
Postgraduate training in research methods
Skills/Training / Evidence of training in epidemiological and qualitative research methods
Evidence of paper publication or submission in the field of biosecurity or vaccination
Good communication skills, both spoken and written / Training in basic statistics
Experience / Experience with conducting research of an interdisciplinary nature
Experience with conducting research with dairy cattle farmers
Experience of working in a professional team / Previous experience of dissemination of research findings and engagement with a range of audiences
Experience with teaching veterinary undergraduate students
Statutory/Legal / Excellent command of the English language, spoken and written.
Satisfactory enhanced disclosure obtained from the Disclosure and Barring Service
Decision Making
