~ K9 SAFETY - (4 hour course)

Location: Sirius K9 Academy (indoor facility) in Yorba Linda. Instructor: Caroline Haldeman. Next class date:Thursday, May 27th (6:30pm- 10:30pm). The K9 safety class is for those who work with dogs with rescue organizations, shelters, boarding kennels, vet hospitals, etc. This class will cover how to read dogs, handling them safely, and how to deal with aggressive dogs. It also covers how to protect yourself from an attack, liability, and much more! Prerequisite: You must work for or volunteer for a dog related business, rescue, or shelter and provide proof upon sign up. ~ AKC CANINE GOOD CITIZEN (CGC) TESTING &CERTIFICATION

Held at the Sirius K9 Academy (indoor facility) in Yorba Linda. Testing is on rain or shine! Next CGC testing dates: Sunday May 2nd at 3pm.Cost: $20. Prerequisite: You must sign up with the evaluator to test and payment must be made in advance to reserve a spot. Evaluator: Mary-Lou Halliday-Campbell. ~ PUPPY MANNERS - (6 week course)

Instructor: Michele Smith. Cost: $150. ($120. for pups from a rescue or shelter – with proof.) Held at the Sirius K9 Academy (indoor facility) in Yorba Linda. Class is on rain or shine! Next class start date:Tuesday May 11th (6:30pm - 7:30pm). Prerequisite: Puppies must be between 10 – 16 weeks old. All puppies must have had at least their second series of vaccinations to attend this class, along with a ‘clean bill of health’ letter from your veterinarian. You must sign up for this class on our website and payment must be made in full to reserve your spot. This class will help prepare your dog for our Basic Obedience group class. (If your dog is older then 4 months, please sign up for our Basic Group class.) You and your dog will be introduced to the Clicker in this class. Your puppy will learn how to sit, down, wait, walk on a loose lead, respond to his/her name, greet people and dogs politely, and more! This is a very fun and motivational class! (8 puppy maximum!) ~ THERAPY DOG TESTING & CERTIFICATION

Held at the Sirius K9 Academy (indoor facility) in Yorba Linda. Testing is on rain or shine! Next TDI (Therapy Dog International) Test Date: TBA. Evaluator: LindaRandall. Prerequisite: Dogs must be at least 1 year old at time of testing and must have at least basic obedience. (Visit our website to see the test and for more details.) You do not need to sign up for this test, just show up! Cost: $10. / $20. if you also need the CGC (AKC Canine Good Citizen) certification on your dog. (If your dog hasn’t been CGC certified, it is mandatory to test for this as well.)

~REMOTE TRAININGCOLLAR INTRODUCTION - (2 hour course)

Instructor: Caroline Haldeman.. Next class dates:Saturday May 1st / June 12th (2:30pm – 4:30pm).at the Sirius K9 Academy (indoor facility) in Yorba Linda. Class is on rain or shine! Cost: $50. Prerequisite: You must sign up for this class on our website and payment must be made in advance to reserve your spot. Space is limited to 4 dogs! You will need to bring your own remote collar and dog(s) with at least basic obedience to this class. This class will help you & your dog understand the remote collar and will teach you how to use it properly on your dog. This is a great training tool for when your dog is off-leash when used correctly! (We recommend the Dogtra 200 NCP Gold Remote Collar for this class.) You may also pay for this class on-line. ~ INTRODUCTION TO AGILITY - (6 week course)

Located at our outdoor locationin Orange Park Acres. Nextclass start date:Sunday May 2nd (4pm - 5pm).This is a beginner group agility class. All breeds welcome! Instructor: Michele Smith. Cost: $150. ($120. for dogs from a rescue or shelter with proof.) (8 dog maximum!) Prerequisite: Your dog must be able to pass our Basic Obedience Test and be at least 1 yr old to attend. ~BASICNARCOTICS DETECTION COURSE - (20 week / 80 hour course)

(Class meets two - three times per week / Class location & times will vary.) Next classstart date: Summer 2010(6 dog / handler teams maximum!) Cost: $2,700. (This does not include a dog. If you would like us to also provide you with a dog for this course, additional fees will apply. Contact us for more details.) Instructor: Ron Gaunt. Prerequisite: Dogs must be at least 1 year old and have basic obedience. All dogs are evaluated prior to the first day of class. You must sign up for this class on our website and a $150. deposit must be made to reserve a spot. The balance is due on the first day of class and the deposit will be applied to the class fee. This course will introduce you and your dog to basic narcotics detection including building your dog’s hunt drive and search desire, expanding the dog’s attention span, problem solving, documentation, proofing, building credibility & confidence, drug identification, safety, and more. A nationally recognized certification test through the NNDDA (National Narcotic Detector Dog Association) will be provided at the end. You will learn how to work dogs on tugs, soft & young dog sleeves, and will be introduced to full suit work. You will learn how to read dogs and work them in prey / defense drives and how to build a dog’s confidence. This class will introduce you to advanced decoy work. You will work dogs on intermediate & leg sleeves, in a full suit, and be introduced to muzzle agitation and hidden sleeve work. ~ SIRIUS K9 ACADEMY PROFESSIONAL DOG TRAINER PROGRAM

(16 week / 250 hour course) This course will prepare you for a career training dogs professionally. Upon completion of this course, you will receive a Professional Dog Trainer Certificate. Class location: Sirius K9 Academy (indoor facility) in Yorba Linda. Projected class start date: Sunday June 13th, 2010.This course will meet three times per week (Sunday (afternoon), Monday (evening), and Thursday (evening) for four hours each day (times will vary) for four months. Additional mandatory class observation days will also be scheduled (weeknights or Saturdays). This will be a part-time intensive hands-on course. Cost: $4,390. (8 student maximum!) Prerequisite: An application and a non-refundable application fee of $50. as well as a $250. deposit is required to reserve a spot in this class. The balance will be due on the first day of class and the deposit will be applied to the class fee. You must be 18 years or older and in good physical condition. The applicant must possess a High School diploma (or G.E.D.) and be fluent in English. Instructor: Caroline Haldeman. (Guest instructors / speakers will also be scheduled.) This course will incorporate only rescue dogs in need of homes into the program. This course will cover many aspects of dog training including; Obedience, tracking, protection training, therapy dog training, scent discrimination, agility, Pet First Aid / CPR, behavior modification and much more! You will need to be prepared to transport the rescue dogs you will be working to and from class, as well as be able to temporarily foster a rescue dog at your home in order to meet the requirements of this course. ~PET FIRST AID / CPR COURSE - (4 1/2 hour course)

You never know when you will need it! If you own a dog or cat, take this class! This course takes place at the Sirius K9 Academy (indoor facility) in Yorba Linda. Nextclass date: Sunday, May 23rd (3:30pm – 8pm) Cost: $65. per person. Class size is limited! ~ THERAPY DOG TRAINING - (6 week course)

Location: Sirius K9 Academy (indoor facility) in Yorba Linda. Class is on rain or shine! Next class start date: Tuesday May 25th (7:30pm – 8:30pm). Cost: $150. Sign up early! Class size is limited to 8 handler / dog teams! Instructors: Caroline Haldeman and Mary-Lou Halliday-Campbell. This class is designed to prepare human/dog teams for visiting hospitals, senior living facilities, and other facilities where handicapped, ill, or disadvantaged people reside for the purpose of providing dog assisted therapy. The class will focus on the correct handling of the dog in therapy situations and the obedience skills required to pass the Therapy Dog International (TDI) test. Prerequisite: Handlers must be at least 12 years old. Owner must provide proof of current vaccinations. You must sign up for this class on our website and the class must be paid for in advance to reserve a spot. All dogs attending must be able to pass our Basic Obedience test. Following the last class, a TDI therapy dog test will be administered for those teams that would like to test. ~ BASIC GROUP OBEDIENCE (YORBA LINDA) -(7 week / 14 hour course)

(WEDNESDAYS at 6:30pm / SUNDAYS at 11am)Held at the Sirius K9 Academy (indoor facility) in Yorba Linda. Class is on rain or shine! Instructors: Caroline Haldeman, Mary-Lou Halliday-Campbell, John Endlich and Mary Ann Loomis. (This course has a minimum of two and as many as four instructors per class!) New classes begin on: SUNDAY = June 6th / WEDNESDAY = June 9th.Dogs should be a minimum of 4 months old. Please note: The first Wednesday class is on the Sunday prior to the posted Wednesday class start date. We combine both classes for the first class. The second and last Wednesday classes are at 6pm (the rest are at 6:30pm). Either class may be split depending on class size. (Class size maximum is 10 dogs!) Dogs do not attend the first class.
