Chapter8–Revolved Parts
In this lesson we will make the revolved parts for the Drill Vice Assembly.
Please note. Read the text of the notes carefully, the pictures are only there as a visual check.
First, start a new part.
As described in chapter 5, select the Revolved Boss/Base command and select the Right Plane.
Now draw half of the profile of the Drill Vice Adjuster Screw as detailed on the drawing at the end of this chapter so that it looks like the picture below (note the position of the point of origin):
When drawing, please note the following points:
- Do not attempt to draw the chamfers at either end of the Ø25 section of this item.
- Do not draw the Ø6.5mm hole at this stage either.
- Don’t forget to divide all of the diameter measurements on the drawing by 2 to make them radius dimensions.
- Fully dimension this part to ensure that it is fully constrained and that all the lines have turned black before leaving the sketch.
When the sketch is complete, click the End Sketch icon complete the steps of the Revolved Boss/Base command. The adjuster screw should look like the picture on the right:
Next add the Ø6.5mm cross-drilled hole in the handle end. Follow the steps shown on page 55 of chapter 5.
Add the chamfers to the ends of the handle, once again following the steps shown on page 59 of chapter 5.
The final operation is add a thread to the Ø12mmarea of the shaft.
First you will need to switch on the option to allow cosmetic threads to be shown.
To do this, select the Options Menu from the top of the screen, as shown below
Alternately, the Options menu can be found at the bottom of the Tools pull down menu.
Next select the Document Properties menu, as shown below and select the Shaded cosmetic threads options, circled in red as shown below.
Note. As this setting applied to the document only, it will need to be set each time you start a new part.
To add the thread to the part select the Insert menu from the tool bar at the top of the screen. From this menu select the Annotations option and from that select the Cosmetic Thread option, as shown below (circled in red).
The Cosmetic Thread menu will now open, as shown below. With the Circular Edge box highlighted in blue, you will need to select the edge of the part of the shaft to which we need to add the thread, as shown on the right in red.
The other data required for the Cosmetic Thread menu are as follows:
- The End Condition menu should be selected as Up to Next, as circled in red below
- The Minor Diameter should be set at 10.00mm, as circled in blue below
- The Thread Callout should be stated as M12 x 1,75, as circled in green below.
Once this is complete, click the green tick to accept the settings.
The completed Adjuster Screw should now look like the view shown below:
You should now complete models for the T-Bar, T-Bar End and Bolts as shown on following pages.
