OR

Place the “Gallon Man” in a protective pouch and secure in your academic notebook. Use for reference during the remainder of the unit.

Alternative Directions: Give each student 5 half sheets of paper (in different colors works the best)1 color - do nothing - label GALLON. Second color - fold in half, then in half again -- unfold, you have 4 equal sections (label each section QUART). Third color- fold in half, then in half again and then in half one more time -- unfold, you will have 8 equal sections (label each section PINT). Fourth color - fold in half, then in half again, then in half again and then in half one last time -- unfold, you will have 16 equal sections (label each section CUP). The last color is for the head and hair. Some students never cut their gallon man apart and tape, but students can clearly see how they all equal the same size (gallon). Do the same thing to illustrate one cup, 1/4 cup, 1/8 cup, 16 tablespoons per cup.
