NORTHAMPTONSHIRE VICTORIA COUNTY HISTORY TRUST
(Registered Charity No. 1051380)
IS SEEKING ENTHUSIASTIC PEOPLE TO HELP RESEARCH AND WRITE THE LATEST NORTHAMPTONSHIRE VOLUME IN THE VICTORIA HISTORY OF ENGLISH COUNTIES
Work has begun on Volume VIII of the Northamptonshire History, covering the Towcester Hundred. It will be a major account of the towncovering: boundaries and population; origins and development; buildings; landownership; economic; social; political and religious history; local government; as well as the rural parts of the parish. It will also include detailed accounts of the parishes which make up the Hundred of Towcester: Abthorpe, Cold Higham, Gayton, Pattishall, and Tiffield.
The volume will be written collaboratively with commissioned experts drawing heavily on enthusiastic people in the local community with appropriate writing skills to conform to Victoria County History (VCH) guidelines. The intention is to complete the research and editing within a five-year period.
The volume has been divided into sections, each with an estimated word length. Some of these sections have been allocated either to VCH professionals or to volunteers from local history groups, but a number of sections remain unallocated.
Whilst much of the research and written work will be undertaken by volunteers, appropriate expenses may be paid; and payment to appropriately qualified contributors and to students can be made.
If you are interested please contact the secretary who can provide a list of the sections available, discuss the style and format required and, if appropriate, remuneration.

Written county by county and based on rigorous documentary research and fieldwork, over 240 volumes have been published so far and 14 county sets completed. Northamptonshire has produced seven volumes, as well as a unique volume on Northamptonshire Families and a paperback pictorial history of Corby.
