STRATEGIC RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT FUND GUIDELINES
Purpose of the Fund
The purpose of this fund, for which 10K has been set aside each year, isthreefold:
- To encourage the development of a collaborative research culture between the University and health practitioners within Kent.
- To build the University’s capacity to respond to health-related research priorities of the Funding Councils and other external funders.
- To foster collaborative research with non-Universityhealth-related research groups in Kent.
Collaborative bids are invited from University and non-University health researchersas detailed below. Applications will only be considered three times per yearand the deadlines for applications are on the last day of the following months:February, June and October.
Application Criteria
Applications are invited forresearch projects, which involvecollaboration between a University academic and a health practitioner within the regional NHS, or other appropriate health-related external agency. Preference will be given to health organisations within the county of Kent. Examples for which it would be appropriate to seek funding might include, but are not limited to: hosting workshops, symposia or meetings that are intended to lead to the development of new partnerships or networks; establishing or significantly enhancing collaborative research developments;acquiring significant research resource; research staff visiting another institution or laboratory to foster collaboration, learn new techniques, or to use instruments/methodology not available in the applicant’s institution; and providing limited amounts of consumables for pilot studies.Preference will be given to applications that involvepostgraduates or early career researchers, or that will lead to the development of further research applications to external sources. Please note that the fund is not designed to support individual conference attendance, routine consumables or for funding postgraduate studentships.
Application Process
It should be recognised that funds are limited. Applications should not normally exceed £3000 and anyone considering a higher value bid should discuss this with the Dean of KentHealth in advance of application. Furthermore, if you have a research proposal which does not appear to fall within this scheme, please contact PeterNicholls to discuss further ().
Applications should be made on the attached form (below) by the University partner and should be submitted by email to d copied tothe relevant Head of School and School Director of Research for their information.
Decisions on applications will be taken by a committee comprising the Dean of KentHealth, KentHealthResearch & Innovation Officerand a representative from one of the regional NHS Trusts not involved in the application.
