Classroom Expectations

1)The MilkovichMiddle Schoolstudent code of conduct applies in this classroom at all times. No exceptions.

2)Be prompt—class begins when the bell rings. If you are not in your assigned seat when the bell rings, you will be marked tardy. You will need a pass to enter class once the bell rings.

3)Be prepared—come to class with your materials, this includes book, notebook and writing utensils.

4)Be respectful—this means each student should respect everyone who enters the classroom as well as their space, belongings and ideas. Let’s treat other the way we would like to be treated. This includes the use of appropriate language at all times.

5)Be on task—it is important that students stay focused on the task to be accomplished. If you are not focusing on the task we are completing, you will not be learning at your full potential.

6)No food or drinks—please do not bring any food or drinks to class other than water. If candy, food, or drinks are issued in class please be sure that all trash ends up in the garbage cans.

7)CELL PHONES/OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES. Cell phones/other electronic devices should be turned off or left in your locker. There is a clock if you need the time. THIS IS YOUR WARNING: I WILL CONFISCATE YOUR PHONE/ELECTRONIC DEVICE IF I SEE OR HEAR IT!!

Class Routine/Supplies

1)There will be Bell Work that should be started at the beginning of the period. As you walk into the classroom, check the main board for directions. Bellwork will be included in the participation section of your grade.

2)I expect that you are prepared for class each day. I would suggest that you organize all notes, handouts, homework, tests, and quizzes so that they are readily available for you to use as supplemental study materials. I STRONGLY suggest you save all materials to refresh and prepare you for tests and quizzes.

3)Please have the following materials WITH YOU every day:

Binder with appropriate dividers (Bellwork, notes, handouts, homework, assessments)

A pen or pencil

Appropriate COVERED textbook

Workbook (if applicable, will go in Homework section of your binder)

Participation

Class discussion will be a vital part of this classroom. Participation in these discussions is essential to learning. Often, tests, quizzes, and essays will be based on classroom discussion. Absences

As stated in the student handbook, upon return from an excused absence you are allowed one day for each day missed to make up work.Any work that is not turned in on the due date will not be accepted. If there is an extenuating circumstance, I am open to communication about that, but you must approach me immediately—not on the day an assignment is due. Take the responsibility of inquiring about what you missed. I will not chase you down to brief you on what happened while you were gone. I will post all assignments on my website, so please check there first. If necessary, talk to a reliable classmate about notes you have missed. Approach me before or after class or during independent study time if you need additional clarification or assignment details. It is your responsibility to make arrangements to make up any missed tests, quizzes, etc.

Cheating/Plagiarism

1)Any student caught cheating on an assignment will be given a zero for that assignment (this includes the use of online translators).

2) NOTE: If one student willingly allows another student to copy his/her work, that student will also receive a zero on that assignment.

3) Cheating also includes copying the exact words of another student even on work that is assigned as group work. PUT IDEAS INTO YOUR OWN WORDS!

4) Cheating also include PLAGIARISM from the internet, books, or other creditable sources.

5) The teacher reserves the right to contact the parent/guardian of any student who is caught cheating.
