PROGRAM: BBG Shabbat 2008

Wilmington Tikvah BBG #1561

How do you see yourself? How do you’re sisters see you?

Samara: Identity. Identity, who am I I’m BBG. I am one the only one there’s so much I can do. Identity.

Jill: It’s what describes you, who you are, and how you see yourself.

Chloe: It’s not just you’re appearance, it’s what is inside, what others don’t see at first glance.

Samara: Sisterhood.

Jill: This is the definition of us, the B’nai Brith Girls, to make sisters for a lifetime.

Chloe: It brings us together as one, forever united.

Samara: Strength

Jill: The power we have as one, the power for a better change.

Chloe: The power you have in yourself, the power to be somebody, the power to be you.

Samara: My sister B’nai Brith Girls,

Chloe: How do you see yourself?

Jill: When you look in the mirror what do you see?

Samara: Every Girl sees themselves differently.

Jill: Whether it’s by thinking you’re beautiful,

Chloe: Or maybe not that pretty.

Samara: But others see you differently, it’s what’s inside that counts.

Jill: It’s a matter of seeing who you are & learning how your sisters view you.

Chloe: It’s a matter of sisterhood… friendships that can last forever.

Samara: So, my sister’s how do you view yourself? You were each given a brown paper bag with your name on both sides and a body drawn on it. On one of the bodies, write and draw how you view yourself, how you look, how you act, and how you think you are seen from you’re fellow sisters in BBG. Keep in mind whatever you draw or write stays in this room.

(The Girls draw who they think they are on one side, with markers. Then after about 10 minutes they are told to pick a name out of a bag, the person they pick is the girl they give their brown bag to.)

Samara: You were each given a number randomly selected from a bag. A fellow BBG here, has the same number. She is a fellow sister, she sees you through different eyes, through different aspects. Give her you’re bag and on the other side she will draw how she see’s you, as a sister, and as a friend.

(The Girls are given 10 minutes to switch and draw the pictures of the girl whose bag they were given.)

Samara: Now, return the bag to its owner. Do you see how one person can see you differently? How through someone else’s eyes you may be completely different? The theme of tonight is to love your sisters, and most importantly love yourself. As you can see, by seeing how others view you, it can make a sisterhood, a connection, and a bond that will last a lifetime, which keeps us together as BBGs.

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION:

How does the view of you’re sister’s drawing change you’re perspective on yourself?

How do other’s influence the way you see yourself?

Do you think the media influences the way we see ourselves?

How can we form a bond together to build ourselves into strong Jewish women?

Were you surprised to see what others drew of you on the other side of the bag?

How has this program changed how you see you’re sisters?

Close with the BBG Pep Song Identity read SAMARA:

Identity, Identity

Who am I? I’m a BBG

I am one, though only one

There’s so much I can do.
