Annual Business Meeting

January 17, 2015

Quorum was established – 54 present

Members were welcomed. Board members were introduced.

The meeting was called to order by President- Elect Carol Montealegre in President Kathy Attaway’s absence at the SECA Leadership Breakfast and Awards Ceremony at 8:45 am.

Minutes were available on the tables for review. Cindy Ramagos moved to accept the minutes as presented and the motion was seconded by Jo Carroll. The motion was accepted unanimously.

Carol thanked the LAECA volunteers for helping with hospitality and work at the conference.

The Financial Report was given by Glenda Bean in Marti Nicholson’s (Financial Officer) absence. Glenda reported the bottom like is looking good as compared to last year. The audit results were clean and are available for review on the SECA website, Leadership/Affiliate/Board Resources page.

Executive Director Report

Silent auction is not totaled from yesterday. Results will be posted on the website.

Conference has been larger than anticipated and has gone smoothly. We had conferees from Canada and California.

Awards Presented:

Marian B. Hamilton Award

Deni Titcomb recognized Cindy Galloway of South Carolina.

Lisa Vinson-Maddox presented the award to the TAEYC President, Cheri Lindsley, who accepted the award on behalf of the Appalachian AEYC president.

Cille D’Ascenzo presented the award to the Austin AEYC Conference Committee of Texas. The award was accepted by Raye Sansom, Chair of the Austin Conference Committee.

Helen Harley Memorial Scholarship

Richard Hardison presented the award to Theresa Patterson of Alabama.

Geania Dickey presented Terry Michaels of Arkansas with the award.

Suzi Brodof presented the scholarship to Linda Jane Martin of West Virginia.

The Rich Scofield Award was presented to Jacob Allen Nichols of Louisiana by Jo Carroll. Jacob was recognized for his work with under-privileged children and his program “Live to Serve.”

Nancy Alexander of Louisiana provided inspiring remarks from her SECA experiences - Social, Educational, Connections, Advocacy, Adventure.

Move to adjourn by Janie Humphries and seconded by Susan Barnes. The motion was accepted unanimously.
