Attached in the packet is the Registration Form for the APIC Indiana Fall Conference. Several members will be attending this year’s fall conference.
Joe shared that he was invited along with Sonya Mauzey, Susan Kraska, and Jennifer Spivey to participate on an ISDH HAI Advisory Group. The purpose of the group is to advise the ISDH on infection control and prevention issues. The primary goal of the HAI Advisory Group is to develop and maintain a 2015 Indiana HAI Plan.
With Ebola Virus Disease, MERS-CoV, HIV, and Hepatitis outbreaks in the past year, there is certainly a need for continued infection control and prevention efforts. There will be a focus on assessing for needs of surgery centers, LTC and EVD preparedness on a state level.
Lindsay Wenning provided the group with a nice update on the following topics.
  • Revision of the communicable disease reporting rule for physicians, hospitals and laboratories.
  • CRE
  • Influenza
  • Hepatitis A
  • Vector Control
  • Bed bug Quick Facts
Joe, Suzanne and Vicky updated the group that they received the final copy of recommendations from ISDH and the CDC on Union Hospital Ebola Assessment Center status for the state of Indiana. The release had been delayed related to the investment of resources into the HIV outbreak. Union will need to evaluate the recommendations, make any needed changes suggested then start on education and mocking through the process. As soon as this is completed as a group we need to look at communication between area Hospitals, Health Departments and EMS.
Stephanie Steele has donated several Dolls for the Fall Conference Basket drive; Joe will meet with Stephanie and help put a basket together.
Joe encouraged everyone to email him what projects they have been working on for chapter excellence. Joe explained to members why it was important to show off what everyone was doing.
Cathie Pritchard gave an update on Qsource and how they are available to partner with your facility and assist with inpatient and outpatient quality reporting which affects everyone’s value based payments.
UHC just completed their HFAP survey last week. Joe reported all went well for that facility and HFAP was especially pleased with the Infection Prevention program.
Sarah stated they are moving forward on mid-line PICC insertion at Regional. They are in the beginning stages of this now but the plan is for nursing to be trained to insert. Sarah will keep us updated on how this goes. / APIC Region 5 Committee
