Report of Principal

Pate’s Creek made AYP for the 2006-2007 school year. Guidelines for the 2007-2008 school year have increased. These new guidelines fall under NCLB (No Child Left Behind). We will have morning tutoring again this year to help students with test preparation.

The bylaws and schedule for 2007-2008 School Council meetings was distributed to members.

Pate’s Creek School Improvement Plan was distributed to members. This plan was developed with the help of our BeST (Better Seeking Team) at the beginning of this school year. This team is comprised of 13 members representing the staff of Pate’s Creek. One area of weakness being addressed is our 5th Grade Writing Assessment. Last year 75% passed this assessment. This year our goal is 90%. A discussion was held concerning testing procedures and goals for Special Education students.

A question was raised – If a subgroup does not meet criteria for AYP, would state take over all of it or just the affected subgroup? Ms. Flournoy stated she would try to have an answer to that at our next meeting.

Ms. Flournoy solicited goals for the School Council for 2007-2008. These should include Student Achievement and School Improvement items. Members should bring suggestions to the next meeting.

Our next meeting will be October 26, 2007 at Pate’s Creek Elementary.

With no further business to come before the school council, the meeting was adjourned at 3:45 p.m.
