Minutes
Present: Mrs. Melissa Amaker-Smalls, Dr. Jennifer Cash, Mrs. Tonya Davis, Mrs. Anna Jacobs, Mrs. Cynthia D. Keller, Mr. Joseph Onyeocha, Dr. Wanda McMichael, Attorney Thomas R. Sims, Dr. Gloria Winkler; Dr. Sharon T. White, Director; Mr. Michael Coaxum, Business Manager
Absent:
- The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by T. Davis, board chairperson.
- Adoption of agenda - A motion to adopt the agenda was made by J. Onyeocha and seconded by W. Michael. Result of voting: 7 yea; 0 nay
- Approval of Minutes - The minutes were approved as noted. A motion to approve the minutes was made by A. Jacobs and seconded by W. McMichael.
Result of voting: 7 yea; 0 nay
- The mission statement was read by all board members who were in attendance.
- Public Comments

Concern about the state of the school.
- Reports
- Director’s Report (Dr. White)
- Enrollment - 391 Students
- One field trip to the My Brother’s Keeper Program for 3rd – 8th boys. Young ladies stayed at Felton and attended Girl Empowerment sessions
- The Black History Month Culminating Program Titled “We are Kings and Queens” was held the end of February. The program was coordinated by the Drama Teacher Ms. Watkins. Students and Teachers performed during the Program.
- During Read Across America Week, the students dressed in a Dr. Zeus related way to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Zeus
- Teachers and Students participated in literacy awareness week and presented grade level STEAM activities.
- Financial Report
- was reviewed and presented by J. Onyeocha for information purposes
- No significant changes since the last report
- Question concerning Account 600 Food Services showed a negative balance, which came from more expenditures than revenues for the month. It should normalize during the next reporting period.
- Total Revenue $569,000, Total Expenditure $516,000, Profit $52,000
- Felton is doing well financially for the month of February.
- Executive Session
- At 6:15 p.m., a motion to go into executive session was made by M. Amaker -Smalls and seconded by A Jacobs.Result of voting 8 yea 0 nay
- At 8:35 p.m. a motion to go back into open session was made by G. Winkler and seconded by M. Amaker-Smalls.Result of voting: 8 yea; 0nay
No Action taken during executive session
- Action on Items from Executive Session (if necessary)
- A motion to affirm the Personal Matter for 2018-2019 was made by T. Sims and seconded by G. Winkler Result of voting:4 yea; 4nay
Motion passed with the Chair voting in the affirmative.
- Reports
- Finance Committee
Contractor will start work on the Gym floor on March 19 – April 2
- School Performance Committee
Committee met on Monday March 5thand looked at MAP projections. It was recommended that more professional development be completed for MAP reports. Dr. White emailed the committee the MAP projections for the fall and winter for reading and math. Map testing will start in April and should conclude right before the SC Ready and SC PASS Testing. Next meeting is in May.
- Ending Comments: Board Retreat is planned for May 19th
