Implementation Steps for High School Senior PEO Program:
Step 1:
Promote the High School Senior PEO Program
Once a program has been established by the county board of elections and a local high school, the program administrator or teacher should provide information to the students of the school.
Hang posters that promote the program within the school.
Schedule and conduct informational meetings before and after school, during government classes or classes that include high school seniors.
Distribute copies of related documents to seniors who are at least 17 years-old. These documents include, but are not limited to: the key information handout, student application and parent permission and notification form and voter registration form.
Communicate with students through letters, email, social media, etc. to remind them of important dates.
Step 2:
Collect Student Permission Forms and Completed Application Forms:
Studentsmust understand and agree to the commitment of serving as a PEO, including attending a (length of training) hour training session and working the entire day on Election Day. By signing the application form, students and parents agree that students can be placed in any polling location in (County Name) County.
Students must complete an application formand a parent permission form that will be returned to the program administrator or teacher.
If a student will be 18 years old on or before the day of the general election, he or she also may submit a voter registration form with the PEO application.

Complete the voter registration form provided by the board of elections OR

If the form is completed online the student must PRINT the form, SIGN it in ink, and include it with the application form and parent permission form.
Students who are already registered to vote should indicate their registration by checking “Already Registered” on the parent permission form.
The teacher shouldmake a copy ofeach signed form and submit all original forms to (County Name) County Board of Elections (NOTE:Teacher signature is also required).
All information must be completein order for the student to qualify. All information will remain with the county board of elections and will not be shared with other parties.
Step 3:
Schedule PEO Training Session
Students must attend and complete an entire training session. Training is mandatory!
The county board of elections will schedule training at (location) or at the school if there are(# of Students) or more students participating. If there are fewer students, the board will notify the program administrator or teacher of the date, time and location of other training sessions scheduled in the area.
If the school prefers, it may create and give participating students a form to obtain a signature from the Voting Location Manager, indicating that the student fulfilled their duties.
Students eligible to vote should plan to vote by absentee ballot, since they will be at theirassigned polling locations all day on Election Day, and might not be assigned to work in the same precinct polling location where they are assigned to vote.
Step 4:
On Election Day, Students Who Work at the Polls Must:
Work all day from (start time) a.m. until excused, at least 8:30 p.m. on Election Day.
Bring the (County Name) County Board of Elections Work Assignment Card (otherwise known as the Certificate of Appointment) with them to the polls.
Act in a nonpartisan manner (no political buttons, badges, pencils, t-shirts, etc.).
Dress in an appropriate manner (no low-riding pants, short skirts, sweat pants, or sandals)
Fully participate as PEOs. Students will have the same duties as other PEOs.
Bring lunch, dinner and/or snacks and beverages. Student PEOs may bring reading materials, but cell phones,iPods, and other electronic devices are prohibited.
