· “Literacy Night” at Parkridge Elementary School – Peoria, AZ. (Annual Event, March 2007 – Present) Joint collaboration with teacher candidates and PUSD teachers to create literacy stations with support from extended, shared stakeholders.
· New Day Homeless Shelter (Annual, December 2008 – 2010)- GCC/NAU Future Teachers organized and facilitated a holiday party at United Methodist (New Day) Homeless Shelter. Scholastic donated over 300 books and vendors provided food and activities.
· Adobe Mountain Jail Visit (October 19, 2008) - GCC/NAU Future Teachers Club toured the school at Adobe Mountain, studying curriculum, interacting with students, and visiting with teachers. Brown Bag followed discussing democracy in education, integrated with EDF 301W curriculum.
· Kenilworth Elementary School service project (April 4, 2008) GCC and NAU
Future Teachers collaborated with fifth grade teachers at Kenilworth to design and
implement a technology integration unit, using PowerPoint as a medium to
composing persuasive writing.
· DIBELS Assessment Team (2006 – 2010) - Member of Peoria Unified School District’s DIBELS Assessment Team. Assess all K-2 students, then employ data driven decision making to form “at-risk” groups of learners.
· “Read Across America Day” (March 3, 2008) Glendale Community College Cohort #1
recruited, scheduled, and coordinated over fifty community volunteers to read to K-5 students at the local elementary school.
· “Literacy Night” at Dos Rios Elementary School – Buckeye, AZ. (November 2, 2007) West Valley Cohort #1 planned and facilitated a Literacy Night at Dos Rios. Students elicited sponsorship from various vendors, including Wal-Mart, Chick-fil-A, and Heritage Makers.
· “Read to the Homeless” (September 18, 2007) - Northern Arizona University @ GCC Cohort #1 participated in a “Read to the Homeless” Event, donating books and snacks and spending the evening reading to children ages 4-12 at United Methodist shelter.
· Member of Run for Autism team, advocating for autism awareness and funding (2005)
· Advise “Troops to Teachers” and “Spouses to Teachers” on the various pre-service teaching programs and possibilities (2004 – present)
