Announcement

Dear Colleagues and Students,

The Annual College of Science and Technology Research Showcase event will take place on Thursday 28th May 2015 at MediaCity UK from 9:15am. This year’s event is co-located with the University of Salford Postgraduate Annual Research Conference (SPARC). This will provide more opportunities to participants for presentation, networking, etc. Please follow the link below to see more details of the SPARC Conference: LINK to the SPARC

At this event there will be awards presented for the Dean’s Prize for academic staff, the Dean’s Prize for PGR (£500) and for the best posters (£200 per poster). I am therefore inviting nominations for the Dean’s Prize and the best PGR student:

1.  The Dean’s Prize for academic staff is aimed at recognising and encouraging new and early career researchers. Each school is to nominate ONE candidate for this prize. Nominations should consist of an A4 page explaining why they believe that the Prize should be awarded to their candidate. Particular emphasis is placed on the quality and impact of the research. The winner will be expected to present their research at the College Research Showcase event on Thursday 28th May 2015. Nominations should be returned to Nathalie Audren Howarth (), at the CST Research & Innovation Office and the deadline is Friday 24 April 2015.

2.  Supervisors are invited to nominate their students in their final year of their minimum period of study for the Dean’s Prize for PGR student. The nomination should consist of a case for support no more than 2 A4 pages long giving justification based on the originality, quality, methodology, impact, and outcomes of the research work. A journal paper may be attached to support the case. Nominations should be returned to the relevant Associate Head for Research & Innovation or directly to Nathalie Audren-Howarth () at the CST Research & Innovation Office. The deadline is Friday 24 April 2015.

3.  Students are invited to submit an abstract and/or present a A0 or A1 poster of their work at the event. This year the posters are to be grouped by schools, and one poster prize will be given to the best poster from each school. The College will cover the costs for printing the posters.

Notes on the submission of posters and abstracts

The invitation to submit a poster and an abstract is open to all current researchers, including postgraduate students and postdocs, in the College of Science & Technology.

Only one poster and abstract submission per researcher is permitted. Abstracts can be submitted without a poster being displayed. However, posters must have an abstract to describe the research.

Abstracts should be no longer than one A4 page (250-300 words), and should include your contact details, University affiliation and key words. Please use the abstract template provided.

The final poster format may be A0 or A1, landscape or portrait.

Please send your posters and abstracts to Nathalie Audren Howarth

The deadline for submitting a poster and abstract is Friday 24 April 2015.

Please note that the College will cover the costs for printing the posters.

Kind regards,
