Transition Week: Wednesday 27th June-Friday 29th June 2018.
Transition Days Kingsmead are vital in ensuring your child makes an outstanding, flying start to life as a Kingsmead Learner. Activities this year will include:
- Whole year group Music Video
- Taster Lessons
- Kingsmead Learner and Building Friendships workshops
- Inspirational talk on new beginnings…
We have also an enriched, personalised programme of provision especially for Year 7; we believe Transition isn’t only about the move to secondary school, but it is about ensuring that each and every Year 7 student is happy and successful so that they can fulfil their true potentiaL. We have rigorous, engaging academic and pastoral intervention programmes in place to enable all of our Year 7s to be the best that they can be. This includes initiatives such as:
- Year 7 Induction Week( A bespoke, specifically designed timetable focused on giving a meaningful, welcoming induction to Year 7 that consists of:
- Workshops developing Kingsmead Learner Skills such as Resilience, Self-Esteem, Organisation, Problem Solving etc.
- Team Building Activities/Competitions led by PE Department and assisted by all teachers.
- A whole school ‘Adventure Quest’ where students have to solve subject specific puzzles and questions to earn points for their team, led by the Maths Department. This includes a ‘Staff Autograph’ Competition where students are encouraged to be bold and greet their new teachers in exchange for a signature – the more you get the better!
- Year 7 Celebration Evening – an event that highlights and celebrates all of the achievements of Year 7’s first week Kingsmead. Awards and prizes are given out at this event based on their efforts during the week’s programme of events.
- Year 7 Reward Card – A signature based competition where students have the whole of the first term to acquire signatures in all of their lessons for demonstrating outstanding work in addition to signatures for contributing to ‘ Wider School Life’ i.e. extracurricular activities, representing the school at events etc. Rewards include a residential trip to Standing Bowers and a Year 7 Disco.
- The Path to Success programme( for students who may be at risk of under-performing in one or more subjects)
- Year 7 Ambassadors – Role Model students who represent the school and assist in leading Primary Liaison activities with our local feeder schools.
This is amongst many more exciting and quality events that Year 7 will; take part in in to help them be the best that they can be.
