Reports:
PSR/Youth Ministry: Vanessa Butterbaugh discussed the Education Committee. At present, Amy Goode and Erica Theller are on the Committee with Vanessa. There will be 2 youth members. PSR has been using the same books, “Blessed are We” up through the 8th grade. There was a change in High School books last year. Presently looking at new books. PSR fees this year will be $30 to $35. The Finance committee has agreed to fund some education for catechists. To become fully certified, there are six courses, and four to six classes per course to get the certification. The cost is $17 per class. The church would pay for three classes per year. Vanessa is hoping that she can get her certification and then teach classes here and invite other churches to attend. Amy Goode has offered to help. There are 12 catechists. Still need 3rd and 4th grade teachers. Seventeen are leaving for Catholic Heart Work Camp on Sunday consisting of fourteen youth and 3 adults. Vanessa met with Mr. McMahon, Superintendent of Circleville City Schools and discussed the possibility of using Everets middle school next summer for Gospel Road. Mr. McMahon was very favorable. More than 200 will be attending. Vanessa stated she would need help with meals, project coordination and approximately 75 job sites. Circleville St. Joseph hosted Gospel Road 8 years ago. At that time there were 80-90 people. Last year there were 190 in New Philadelphia. In 2012, there were 180 in Lancaster. Gospel Road is July 12-17 this year. A parishioner near Laurelville needs assistance around her house and there will be a confirmation service project on July 12.
Deanery: Nancy Plescia reported that the Deanery has not met since the last PPC meeting and will not meet again until September. Father Ted is the Dean for Deanery 12.
Finance: Mike Logan reported that there is still $17,000 to reach our Parish goal for Bishop’s Annual Appeal.
Old Business:
A. Restoration Steering Committee –Father Ted stated he had talked with Diocesan Divine Worship. Presently there are four design companies; two companies are in our Diocese. The committee is going to visit the churches where these design companies have worked. The committee can get rendering drawings from three of the companies; however Conrad Schmidt is not willing to do a rendering unless there is a contract. The committee will be the ones to make the decision. Handicap accessibility will need parish consensus, however. Restroom on church level or an elevator to the basement is some of the suggestions. The gutters need replaced at a cost of $77,000 and will be considered for next year’s BAA.
B. Media Committee – The adult Sunday school has been watching a video on New evangelization. It was brought up during those sessions that St Joseph needs to be advertising what our church is about - what it means to be Catholic; how to become Catholic. We need to “advertise” our parish and our faith. We need a “PR” person. Suggestions were having Mass recorded and presented on the local TV station and keeping in touch with our shut-ins.
C. Education Committee: Vanessa discussed during PSR/Youth Ministry.
D. Directory: Pictures were taken and there will be a second week in July or August when additional pictures can be taken. Pictures can be submitted to the directory as well.
Next meeting: The next meeting will be September 22, 2014 at 7 p.m. in the church hall.
The meeting was closed with prayer.
Respectfully submitted:
Judy Dossman
