Henry County Summer Camps & Activities2012

FOCUS Camp Hollywood, First United Methodist Church, McDonough

June 18 – 22, Mon – Fri, 10:00am – 3:00pm

$200 / $180 for each additional child (siblings welcome), ages 5-21 years

Campers enjoy a week of art, music, science, cooking and recreations based on the themes of popular children’s movies. Counselors are paraprofessionals and teachers who have experience with children with developmental disabilities. Email for more information and to get an application.

Great Escape Theater, McDonough

Movies at 9:30am every Tues-Wed-Thur starting May 29. Seating is first-come, first-served. Tickets are $1.50 per movie or $5 for a summer pass.

Henry County Library System

Summer activities for all ages and abilities (details to be posted); check website for library information in McDonough, Stockbridge, Fairview, Hampton and Locust Grove. See also, Georgia Library for Accessible Services (GLASS), a free national library program that offers books and magazines on cassette tape and in Braille for eligible people with visual or physical disabilities, All materials sent to borrowers and returned by postage-free mail.

Day camps for children ages 6 – 12 and teen camp for ages 13 – 15 starting May 29

Limited slots are available for children with special needs at the Locust Grove Recreation day camp with support from the Therapeutic Recreation staff. Slots fill up quickly so register early! For more information, contact Terry Nash at the Therapeutic Recreation Department, 770-288-7300.

Other Summer Camps & Activities

Camp Because We Care, Fayetteville (Fayette Co)

Begins June 4, $150 for one week 8:30 – 12:30pm or $250 for one week 8:30 – 4:00pm

Camp Because We care provides children on the autism spectrum ages 6 - 17 access to quality summer camp experiences with trained camp counselors who incorporate therapeutic and educational goals into recreational activities.Contact Kimberly Biggs (404)825-6005 or for more information.

Camp Dream, Warm Springs, GA

Camp Dream is for all ages and abilities held at the Roosevelt Institute in Warm Springs, a barrier-free facility. Sessions run June 10 through July 29, $500 per camper, some campership funds available.

Camp Twin Lakes, various dates and locations in GA

Camp Twin Lakes is a network of camps for children with serious illnesses, disabilities, and other challenges. Customized programs teach campers to overcome obstacles and grow in their confidence and capabilities. Check their website for the complete list of camps offered throughout the summer.

Exceptional Camp, Fayette Outdoor YMCA (Fayette Co)

Four 1-week sessions starting June 11, 9:00 – 4:00pm, $250 per week, ages 9 – 15

Campers with developmental disabilities participate in traditional camp activities. Approx. ratios are 4:1 and supervised by certified staffand para pros.Contact Amy at Summit YMCA for more information, 770-954-9622.

Friendship Camp, Decatur (DeKalb Co)

June 11 - 15, July 16 – 20, 9:30am – 3:00pm, $350 per week, ages 4 - 22

Engaging activities are facilitated by certified teachers and trained professionals to help participants develop social skills and build friendships. Email .

Royal Family Kids Camp, Lovejoy (Clayton Co)
