General

There was an increase in the number of sponsored competitions during 2016and this is an area that has seen marked improvement over the past number of years.

The Captain’s Charity day was again a tremendous success with €7,500.00 shared between the Rockmount Day Care Centre, Kilgarvan and the Make a Wish Foundation.

A special mention to our retiring Committee members who have given great service to the running of men’s golf - namely John Cahill and Brian O’Regan, who have served with distinction for the past two and three years respectively, and to Ex-Officio Captain Michael Quirke who has also given great serviceduring his long tenure.

I also wish to sincerely thank the Management Council, General Manager Cormac Flannery and the administrative staff, David Keating and the staff at the PRO Shop, Paul Cotter at the chapel and Peter Dunlea and the Bar/Catering staff, as the combined effortsof the aforementioned, ensure that Killarney Golf and Fishing Club is a truly wonderful experience for member and guest alike.

A special mention toEnda Murphy and his team for the magnificent condition in which all three courses haven been presented to us over the past twelve months, the positive feedback from members and visiting golfers speaks volumes, and is testament to the professionalism and dedication of the gentlemen concerned.

The response from Club members who turned out in January/February, to clear tonnes of debris from our courses was nothing short of outstanding, and this certainly helped the cause in having our courses back in play, so soon after an unprecedented number of severe storms had hit our little corner of the world. A most sincere thank you must also be extended to the members of our neighbouring Clubs who turned up in great numbers, to help out in this regard.

Congratulations and sincere thanks, to the great triumvirate of Jack Buckley (Captain) Seamus Coffey (Secretary) and Michael Quill (Treasurer) for the professional manner in which they ran the Federation of Kerry Golf Clubs, on our behalf, in 2016. All competitions were very well run and these gentlemen did KG&FC proud, with their efforts over the course of a very successful year.

Finally, I wish to sincerely thank Captain Liam Hartnett, President Arthur Hanley and my fellow Committee members for their commitment to the Club, over the past twelve months, and wish Declan McCarthy and his incoming Committee every success for the year ahead.

Yours in Sport,

______
