Being the parent or guardian of the above rider
1) Have obtained permission from the Club’s Youth Head Coach for my child to join the Youth Guided Rides when arranged.
2) Have read the information on this form, the details provided on the cycling youth page of the club website and consent to my child participating in the Youth Guided Rides entirely at his/her own risk.
3) Understand that these are guided not coached rides and the leaders and their assistants may not be qualified cycle coaches.
4) Have considered the nature of such sessions and have discussed them with my son/daughter.
5) Am satisfied that my son/daughter is sufficiently responsible and competent to assume full and entire responsibility for his/her own safety while on the public highway and can ride to British Cycling’s Level 2 standard which requires riders to be capable of:
● starting and finishing an on-road journey
● observing the environment and factors that may affect their riding
● signalling their intentions to other road users
● riding on the correct part of the road they are using
● passing side roads, parked or slower moving vehicles
● turning right and left on a major and minor road
● taking the correct carriageway lane when they need to (e.g. at roundabouts)
● demonstrating a basic understanding of the Highway Code
6) Confirm that my child has a full BTF or BC membership to ensure adequate insurance cover.
7) Understand that I am giving consent for my child to participate in a group ride on a public highway.
8) Understand that in case of emergencies I, or the person indicated as the emergency contact on the day, must be available and contactable during the ride and if necessary able to collect my child from anywhere on the route.
9) Have explained to my child that they are expected to remain in the group from beginning to end and are responsible for getting themselves to and from the meeting point. Should my child become detached from the group they know they should stop, move off the road to safety and contact the ride leader by phone and await instructions. I will obtain a clear understanding before my child departs of their anticipated return time.
10) Understand that if my child persistently misbehaves or puts others in danger he/she will not be allowed to attend in the future.
11) Understand that it is my responsibility to ensure that my child’s bike is in a safe condition to ride on the day.
12) Understand that my child must wear a cycling helmet at all times during the ride, bring adequate clothing, drink, food, money, working rear light, at least one spare inner tube, pump and tyre levers.
13) Understand that my child must have a mobile phone on their person that is charged, switched on and has the contact number of the ride leader and an ICE entry already in the phone’s contacts.
14) Have placed a sticky label on my child’s bike with my emergency contact number or that of a nominated adult.
15) The rider is aged 12 years and above.
