Note for IS Majors

Most of the courses in the IS Major will be suspended after the current academic year. In order to graduate with an IS major, you must have already completed CpSc 1620 (Fundamentals of Programming) or have transfer credit for it. And by the end of the Fall 2013 term, you must have successfully completedMgt 3821 (Visual Programming), Mgt 3830 (Database) and Mgt 4840 (Systems Analysis). Next term, Spring 2014, you must enroll in and complete Mgt 4841 (Systems Design). None of these four courses will be offered for IS Majors after the current academic year.

The IS Major also requires Mgt 3920 (Project Management) as a substitute for Mgt 4380 (Management Issues in IS), which is no longer offered. The Project Management course has been offered in the fall only for many years and we expect it will continue to be offered in Fall 2014.

Finally, the IS Major requires Mgt 3822 (Object-Oriented Programming) which is no longer offered. Three substitute courses are permitted:CpSc 2620, Athabasca University CMIS 314, or Mgt 3862 (E-Commerce). We expect Mgt 3862 (E-Commerce) to be the most common choice and it should be offered again in Spring 2014, and probably in Fall 2014 as well.

Note for IS Minors

To graduate with an IS Minor, you must complete Mgt 3830 (Database). If you have not taken this course already, it will be offered for the final time in Spring 2014. The IS Minor also requires three of the following four courses: Mgt 3821 (Visual Programming), Mgt 3862 (E-Commerce), Mgt 3920 (Project Management) and Mgt 4840 (Systems Analysis). Mgt 4380 (Management Issues in IS) is also listed but will not likely be offered. Visual Programming will not be offered again either. So, except for those who have already completed Mgt 3821, most IS Minor students will need to take Mgt 3862, 3920, and 4840.

If you have not already completed these three courses, Mgt 3862 (E-Commerce) should be offered again in Spring 2014, and probably in Fall 2014 as well. We also expect that Mgt 3920 (Project Management) will be offered in Fall 2014 (but not Spring 2013 or 2014). Mgt 4840 (Systems Analysis) will probably be offered for the last time in Fall 2014 for IS Minors only, so they can complete that program. And if Mgt 4840 cannot be offered, we will try to offer some IS-related course that will allow students to complete the IS Minor.
