Job Title / Internal Quality Assurer (South East)
Reporting to / Apprenticeship Manager
Purpose of Role /
  • In liaison with the Deputy Apprenticeship Manager (Quality), to take responsibility for the formative and summative internal quality assurance of CILEx Law School (CLS) apprenticeship programmes,ensuring standards are met and there is timely achievement of learners in designated region.
  • To line manage legal assessors and trainers in the southern area, as directed by the Apprenticeship Manager.
  • To maintain a proportionate caseload of apprentices for assessing and training.

Key Areas of Responsibility / Line Management
  • Line manage the legal assessors and trainers based in the southern area as directed by the Apprenticeship Manager
  • Liaise with the Apprenticeship Manager and legal assessors and trainers on student performance and completion rates
  • Support the recruitment process for legal assessors and trainers as required by the Apprenticeship Manager
  • Assist with team calls in conjunction with the Apprenticeship Manager and Deputy Apprenticeship Managers
Internal Quality Assurance
  • Quality assure portfolio submissions ensuring that national standards are maintained and the assessment needs of candidates are being met within a timely manner to enable timely completion.
  • Use Onefile/ e-portfolioto monitor competence development practice and maintain standardisation of legal assessor and trainer judgements ensuring decisions are fair and valid.
  • Assist the Deputy Apprenticeship Manager (Quality) to develop and implement the IQA strategy to include formative and summative sampling and preparation for EQA visits/activity.
  • Plan and deliver standardisation sessions to ensure all competence based decisions are continually standardised.
  • Ensure that preparation of visits, learner assessment plans, progress reviews and Individual Learning Plans are consistent and timely.
  • Ensure the e-portfolio system is used efficiently and in line with best practice.
Delivery/Administration
  • Assist the Apprenticeship Manager in planning the delivery of competence based programmes to support the successful completion of end point assessment portfolios for the paralegal and CLE standards.
  • Assist the Apprenticeship Manager in developing materials to support the delivery of competence based programmes for the paralegal and CLE standards.
  • Assist the Apprenticeship Manager in maintaining centre files and records for internal quality assurance using appropriate systems.

Customer Service /
  • Deliver a high level of customer service in both written and verbal communication
  • Deliver customer service in line with Customer Service Standards

Other Areas /
  • Undertake training consistent with developing skills relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
  • Undertake any other duties of a similar level and responsibility as may be required from time to time.

Location /
  • Based at home in the south east of England, with the requirement to visit head office (in Bedford) regularly as well as client offices.

Person Specification
Qualifications Skills and Knowledge
Essential /
  • Law/CILEx graduate, Chartered Legal Executive, solicitor or barrister
  • A minimum of two years’ legal practice experience in any area
  • Able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of apprenticeship delivery
  • Assessor qualification
  • IQA qualification (or working towards)
  • Proven and significant experience of delivering assessment andinternal verification in apprenticeship programmes
  • Excellent people management skills and proven ability to manage a team
  • Able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the paralegal apprenticeship standard
  • Knowledge and understanding of apprenticeship frameworks, where relevant
  • Proven ability to manage own time effectively and efficiently
  • Able to demonstrate excellent oral and written ‘plain English’ communication skills
  • Evidence of being able to forge good working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Able to demonstrate flexible working and national travel capability
  • Able to demonstrable genuine commitment to promoting the welfare of students
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Full driving licence and car owner

Desirable /
  • Experience of training and developing new assessors
  • Experience of CLE and Solicitor apprenticeship standards
  • Experience of using e-portfolio systems, specifically OneFile
  • Experience of teaching Level 3 CILEx/A level Law and/or CILEx Level 6 in further education
