YOUTH JOURNALIST SUBMISSION

FOR AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL CANADA

MEDIA AWARDS 2016

Amnesty International Canada invites student journalists to make submissions for its annual Youth Media Award.

The Youth Media Award honours students who have created content covering international or national human rights issues with a particular emphasis on how they impact young people. The coverage of specific human rights issues should include a variety of perspectives with analysis and not opinion. The media output should also go beyond comment on the human rights issues and address possible solutions. Entries will be judged on the significance/importance of the human rights issue addressed, the reportorial enterprise shown by the writer/producer of the piece, and the clarity and/or production standards in the presentation of the content.

This award recognizes the coverage of human rights issues that are printed, broadcast or posted online from a Canadian post-secondary institute and are within the mission of Amnesty International.

AmnestyInternational (AI) is a worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights. AI’s vision is of a world in which every person enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards.

In pursuit of this vision, AI’s mission is to conduct research and take action to prevent and end grave abuses of all human rights – civil, political, social, cultural and economic. From freedom of expression and association to physical and mental integrity, from protection from discrimination to the right to housing- these rights are indivisible.

The winner will be announced in September 2016. The prize is 500 dollars. The winner will also later receive an Amnesty International Canada Youth Media Award at the annual Amnesty International Canada Media Awards event.
