Student will create ONE CELL PROJECT from the following choices:
Due Date _____ Name of Student ______
Choice 1 -Travel brochure (use plain white paper)
The studentwill produce a travel brochure that describes a plant OR animal cell as if it were a large exhibit or other attraction . Students should accurately describe, draw (or use internet pictures) and explain at least 10 organelles (attractions) and their functions. Humor and creativity are strongly encouraged. You can incorporate the organelle name into the item, or put the name of the organelle in parenthesis at the end of the sentence. Example: “Please use the moving walkways to get around the Cell Park (endoplasmic reticulum).” Or “If you’re hungry, be sure to visit the Chloroplast Cafe. Analogies are welcome! You may use a software program to help (Publisher or other).
My Plan: My Plant/Animal (circle one)cell as a ______
(Make sure that you do not mix up plant and animal organelles in the same cell!) The brochure should be very visual while giving explanations.

Rubric:
Travel brochure is neat and free of spelling errors. / 10 pointsTen different organelles are included. / 10 points
Functions of all ten organelles represented are accurate. / 10 points
The project is colorful, uses pictures and shows creativity. / 10 points
TOTAL: / 40 points
Choice 2 – Cell Comic Strip
The student will create a6 – 10 frame comic strip discussing the similarities (7) and differences (3) between plant and animal cells. Be creative and original as you accurately describe functions of both the plant and animal cell and how they compare to each other. Humor and creativity are strongly encouraged. Analogies are welcome! Computers can be used.
My plan for the comic strip:
Organelle (or other) / Function or Job / In Both? / In Plant cell? / In Animal Cell?1.

7 total / 3 more in either of these columns
You should have 7 items in the “both” column and a total of 3 items in the plant cell and/or animal cell column for a total of 10 items.
Rubric:

The project is colorful, uses pictures and shows creativity. / 10 points
TOTAL: / 40 points
Choice 3 – Cell Song
The student will learn and perform a teacher selected cell song outlining the parts of the cell. They will also make a hand-done promotional poster promoting the song and the parts of the cell (labeled). The poster must include the following organelles: mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum and golgi complex, nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, ribosomes and vacuoles and their function in the cell.
Rubric:
Promotional poster includes eight required organelles labeled. / 10 pointsEight organelle functions are correctly described. / 10 points
Cell song is performed accurately (lyrics correct). / 10 points
The poster is colorful, uses pictures, shows creativity and is neat and free of spelling errors. / 10 points
TOTAL: / 40 points
Song lyrics adapted from The Cell Song (created by The Cell Squad in TN)
[to the tune of "Jingle Bells"]
The Cell Song
We came to school this year,To learn about the cell,
We learned the names of parts,
Which we call organelles.
Our thanks to Robert Hooke,
Who looked into his scope,
He saw dead cork cell walls and
Now cytology’s no joke.
CHORUS:
Oh, organelles, nucleolus, mitochondria,
Endoplasmic reticulum and golgi complex too,
Nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane with pores,
Ribosomes, DNA and many vacuoles. / Inside every eukaryotic cell,
You'll find all of these parts,
They do many different jobs,
They are even in our heart.
All cells come from other cells,
All living things do too,
We hope you now can name the
Organelles inside of you!!
CHORUS repeat
