POSITION TITLE: Director, Research

DEPARTMENT: Research and Evaluation

REPORTS TO: Senior Vice President, Research and Evaluation

Classification: Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director will provide expertise in applying survey data methodology and complex statistical analyses for studies related to youth and adult tobacco use. The Director will develop and guide statistical analyses in an effort to produce reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts that will contribute to the tobacco control literature. The Director will work closely with another Research Director and the Senior Vice President.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead the staff in developing and guiding data analyses of large-scale population-based data using complex methods such as multi-level or contextual analysis, structural equation modeling and generalized estimating equations; interpret results; produce reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts; and manage external contract data collection and analyses.

Work closely with another Director and the Senior Vice President to design and implement evaluation studies for Legacy campaigns, including sampling methodology and survey development; and serve as an expert resource on analytical issues to senior leadership within the Foundation.

Communicate research and evaluation findings to various audiences from a range of backgrounds, including tobacco control researchers, marketing experts, and policymakers; present research findings on behalf of the Foundation at major conferences, press events and meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must have a strong background and interest in statistical methodology, including experience with complex survey design and hold a doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, EdD) in a quantitative discipline such as statistics, epidemiology, survey methodology or economics, OR hold a doctoral degree in another health-related discipline along with a master’s degree in statistics. Several years of management experience is desirable. The candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills, a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects across interdisciplinary teams and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Experience in tobacco control is desirable, as is interest and/or experience analyzing online social media.
