Orientation Leader Information
Position Description
An Orientation Leader (OL) conveys information to new students and their families about Shawnee State University’s degree programs and services. The OL assists with all orientation events and plays a vital role in facilitating the adjustment of new students to our campus and the community. The OL position is an outstanding opportunity for students interested in gaining leadership skills and enhancing his/her marketability.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the implementation and execution of Orientation programs, including Freshman, Transfer, Parent, Fall, Spring and Summer Orientations and Fall Welcome Weekend.
- Lead group discussions for groups of incoming students and family members.
- Provide support to academic and departmental offices during Orientation.
- Explain SSU academic and organizational opportunities.
- Guide incoming students on an informative tour of the SSU campus.
- Aid students with the online registration process.
- Perform extra duties is required, including but not limited to: assist with assembly of orientation materials, calling students/parents reminding them of upcoming orientation dates, tallying orientation evaluations, participating in Admissions and Orientation events and campus tours throughout the academic year.
- Attend ALLOrientations and training sessions.

- Currently enrolled undergraduate student at Shawnee State University
- Desire to work with students, faculty, family and staff
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 after Fall 2013
- Maintain a2.5 GPA during the time of employment as an Orientation Leader
- Problem solving abilities
- Sensitivity to diversity in all forms
- Must enroll for Fall 2014

Training Dates
Dates required for training will be established following the selection of OLs.
Application Process
- Applications are due to Student Activities (University Center Room 222) no later than Monday, November 24thby5pm.
- Applicants must participate in a group interview session (2 hour commitment) in January.
- Individual interviews will be held in January.
- OL positions will be offered during Spring Semester.
Group Interview
This 2-hour session will consist of scenarios and activities in which OL applicants will participate. This session will give applicants an opportunity to meet each other and to get an idea of what is expected of an OL. All applicants must attend this session to be considered for a position.
