Appendix 3 – Awards and Trophies

There are various awards and trophies given out, both at each Round of the JuniorChampionship and National Championship, plus ‘Championship Awards’ which are given out after each Championship has finished. The various awards are listed below :

Per Round – Junior and National Championships

At the end of each Round, trophies are awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd position in terms of Points Scored per Main Class. Trophies are not awarded for Subdivisions within the Main Class.

At each Round, one or more Drivers can be nominated for the Driver of the Day Award. Nominations are made by the COVKARTSPORT Organisers, and a Poll is created on the COVKARTSPORT Facebook page. Drivers and Spectators present at the round can vote for their choice, and the driver with the most votes will receive the ‘Driver of the Day’ award, announced during the Driver Briefing at the next Round. In case of a tied vote, the COVKARTSPORT President or Vice-President will decide the winner.

The result of the Poll is not published, so only the Winning Driver is announced.

Per Season – Junior Championship

For the Junior Championship, the following trophies are awarded:

1st, 2nd and 3rd position in the overall Championship Table, regardless of whether those positions are taken by ‘Standard’ or ‘Plus’ drivers. These trophies are defined as:

Junior Championship Winner, Junior Championship 2nd Place, Junior Championship 3rd Place

As the Standard class and Plus class drivers always race together, it is likely (although not always the case) that the Standard class drivers (given their weight advantage) normally finish higher in the table than the Plus class drivers. In recognition of this, separate Trophies are awarded to the highest placed Plus Class driver(s), based on the following:

1 Plus Class Driver completing 5 or more Championship Rounds – No Trophy awarded

2 - 4 Plus Class Drivers completing 5 or more Championship Rounds – Junior Plus 1st

5 – 8 Plus Class Drivers completing 5 or more Championship Rounds – Junior Plus 1st, Junior Plus 2nd

8 or more Plus Class Drivers completing 5 or more Championship Rounds – Junior Plus 1st, Junior Plus 2nd, Junior Plus 3rd

In all cases, if a Plus Class Driver(s) finishes in any of the Top 3 Overall positions, the Junior Plus Trophies are reduced by one – i.e. if there are 5 – 8 Plus Class Drivers, and a Plus Class driver finishes 2nd Overall, the next highest placed Plus class driver will receive the Junior Plus 2nd trophy.

Regardless of Subdivision, the driver finishing in 1st place in each Main Class Championship is declared the Overall Class Champion, unless the driver in 1st place is racing with Novice status, in which case the next highest placed driver will be declared the Champion.

Trophies will be awarded to the highest placed Junior Novice driver(s) based on the following:

1 Junior Novice Driver completing 5 or more Championship Rounds – No Trophy awarded

2 - 4 Junior Novice Drivers completing 5 or more Championship Rounds – Junior Novice 1st

5 – 8 Junior Novice Drivers completing 5 or more Championship Rounds – Junior Novice 1st, Junior Novice 2nd

8 or more Junior Novice Drivers completing 5 or more Championship Rounds – Junior Novice 1st, Junior Novice 2nd, Junior Novice 3rd

Per Season – National Championship

For the National Championship, the following trophies are awarded per Main Weight Class :

1st, 2nd and 3rd position in the overall Championship Table, regardless of whether those positions are taken by ‘Standard’ or ‘Plus’ drivers. These trophies are defined as:

Lightweight Championship Winner, Lightweight Championship 2nd Place, Lightweight Championship 3rd Place

Heavyweight Championship Winner, Heavyweight Championship 2nd Place, Heavyweight Championship 3rd Place

In each Main Weight Class

1 Plus Class Driver completing 5 or more Championship Rounds – No Trophy awarded

2 - 4 Plus Class Drivers completing 5 or more Championship Rounds –Plus 1st

5 – 8 Plus Class Drivers completing 5 or more Championship Rounds –Plus 1st, Plus 2nd

8 or more Plus Class Drivers completing 5 or more Championship Rounds – Plus 1st, Plus 2nd, Plus 3rd

In all cases, if a Plus Class Driver(s) finishes in any of the Top 3 Overall positions, the Plus Trophies are reduced by one – i.e. if there are 5 – 8 Plus Class Drivers, and a Plus Class driver finishes 2nd Overall, the next highest placed Plus class driver will receive the Plus 2nd trophy.

Regardless of Subdivision, the driver finishing in 1st place in each Main Class Championship is declared the Overall Class Champion, unless the driver in 1st place is racing with Novice status, in which case the next highest placed driver will be declared the Champion.

Trophies will be awarded to the highest placed Novice driver(s) in each Main Weight Class, based on the following:

1 Novice Driver completing 5 or more Championship Rounds – No Trophy awarded

2 - 4 Novice Drivers completing 5 or more Championship Rounds –Novice 1st

5 – 8 Novice Drivers completing 5 or more Championship Rounds –Novice 1st, Novice 2nd

8 or more Novice Drivers completing 5 or more Championship Rounds –Novice 1st, Novice 2nd, Novice 3rd

Across both of the Main Weight Classes (i.e. not awarded per Weight Class), the Trophies will be awarded to the highest placed Veteran driver(s), based on the following:

1 Veteran Driver completing 5 or more Championship Rounds – No Trophy awarded

2 - 4 Veteran Drivers completing 5 or more Championship Rounds – Veteran 1st

5 – 8 Veteran Drivers completing 5 or more Championship Rounds – Veteran 1st, Veteran 2nd

8 or more Veteran Drivers completing 5 or more Championship Rounds – Veteran 1st, Veteran 2nd, Veteran 3rd

As a tribute to a former COVKARTSPORT Member, the Veteran Champion is awarded the Martin Stone Memorial trophy.

Overall COVKARTSPORT Champion

The Overall Championship Trophy is awarded to Overall Main Class Champion (Junior, Lightweight, Heavyweight) with the highest points total of the year.

Other Information

Championship Points Totals for each driver will be their best 24 race results of the year – Drivers competing in 10 Rounds, will drop their 6 lowest race scores. Drivers competing in 9 rounds will drop their 3 lowest race scores, and Drivers competing in 8 Rounds or less will not drop any race scores.

Tied Positions are decided by a countback of Race Finishing positions. In the unlikely event that there is still a Tie for a position, then the position is declared as a Tie and each driver will receive a trophy for that position.

There are several other trophies which are presented for various achievements throughout the year – these are also presented at the Annual Awards Evening :

Paul Doig Trophy (for non-racing contribution to COVKARTSPORT) : The winner(s) of this trophy are decided by the COVKARTSPORT Organisers. The trophy is generally awarded to an individual(s) who has contributed ‘over and above’ in some way to COVKARTSPORT.

Rookie of the Year : All Drivers in their first National Series are eligible for this award, regardless of Main Class, Sub-division or Novice/Veteran status. The trophy is awarded to the Rookie with the highest number of points in the National Series.

Most Improved Driver : The Winner of this trophy is decided by the COVKARTSPORT Organisers. Usually the winner is a Driver who, compared to previous season(s) has significantly improved their Championship finishing position, or who has demonstrated improved driving standards and/or consistency.

Most Fastest Laps : This Trophy is awarded to the Driver (regardless of Main Class or Subdivision) who has achieved the highest number of Fastest race laps. In case of a tie, the award is ‘shared’

Overall Open Champion : The winner of the Overall Open Championship is presented with this trophy

Championship, Overall and Special Awards Trophies

In most cases, for the Main Awards in each Championship, Overall Winning awards, and Special Awards, the Winning Driver will be presented with 2 trophies – 1 trophy will be for the driver to keep, and the 2nd trophy will be the Championship Trophy which will be engraved with the winning driver’s name (alongside the names of previous winners). The Championship Trophies are the property of COVKARTSPORT and all Drivers who are presented with any of these trophies agree to return them, in the same condition as they were given, to COVKARTSPORT in time for the relevant Series or Championship in the following year. Normally, Drivers who have been awarded these trophies will be informed via Social Media or via e-mail when and where to, the trophies should be returned.
