Overtime / To ensure compliance, the total number of hours worked by the employee across multiple positions at McMaster University will be used to calculate the overtime threshold and the overtime hours worked will be paid at the individual’s highest rate of pay.

Public Holiday Pay / Public holiday pay calculation amended to the total amount of regular wages earned in the pay period immediately preceding the public holiday, divided by the number of days the employee worked in that period.

  • Domestic or Sexual Violence Leave will provide up to 10 days leave and an additional 15 weeks leave, with the first 5 days of such leave in each calendar year paid.
  • Crime-Related Child Disappearance Leave will increase from 52 up to 104 weeks of leave without pay where a child disappears and it is probable that the disappearance was the result of a crime;
  • Child Death Leave will provide leave without pay up to 104 weeks for the death of a child for any reason (certain exceptions apply).
  • Critically Ill Childcare Leave is replaced by the Critical Illness Leave, to provide care or support to a minor child or an adult family member whose life is at risk as a result of an illness or injury. The period of unpaid leave in a 52-week period is up to 37 weeks for a minor child and up to 17 weeks for an adult family member.
  • Family Medical leave will increase from up to 8 weeks to up to 28 weeks’ unpaid leave (in a 52-week period).
  • Extended length of Pregnancy from 6 weeks to 12 weeks for still-birth or miscarriage and extended Parental leave from 35 to 61 weeks if Pregnancy leave taken, and 37 to 63 weeks if Pregnancy leave not taken.
