EDUCATION
1984: Master of Arts in Urdu literature, University of Karachi, Pakistan. Was awarded gold medal. Thesis titled: (Mumtaz Hussain, Aasar aur Afkar, Taraqqi pasand tehrik ke hawale se) Was enrolled in Ph.D. program at University of Karachi, Pakistan. before I left for the U.S. Plan to complete the degree.
1981: Bachelor of Arts, with majors in International Relations, Political Science, Urdu and English. University of Karachi, Pakistan.

WORK EXPERIENCE
October2006-Present: Foreign language consultant, Balochi Pedagogical Expert of The National Foreign Language Center at the University of Maryland.
November2002-Present: Creative Consultant, Colors of Asia Television Program, New York. I have helped in the production, including moderating as a host, of respected programs.
Sept. 2002- May, 2006: Adjunct, teaching Urdu at New York University in the Department of Middle Eastern Studies.

Sept 1985 - Nov 2000: assistant professor of Urdu at the Federal Urdu University for Arts, Science and Technology, in Karachi, Pakistan. Taught Intermediate, BA and MA courses.
Courses taught in MA class: Urdu Classical Poetry, Urdu Prose of 19th and early 20th century, History of Urdu Literature, Modern 20th century Urdu poetry, ranging from works by Iqbal to Faiz, N.M. Rashid and Meeraji, and also the Progressive Writers' Movement and Urdu Criticism.
Sept.2002-2003: (Free Lance) Translated and wrote Columns for the weekly New York-based Urdu Times.

Won first position in Law College, University of Peshawer’s “Pakistan’s All Pakistan Debate” competition for three years, 1983,1984 and March 18, 1985.
Won Government College Jhang’s (Punjab) “Hazrat Sultan ul Aarfin” trophy for two years, by receiving first prizes in all Pakistan debate, poetry; essay writing competition, Islamic symposium, and “Bi-lingual Declamation” in 1982, 1983.
Won first prize in All Pakistan Urdu Debate competition at F. C. College Lahore, Pakistan and won trophy in 1983, All Pakistan Urdu Debate competition at Engineering University, Lahore in1982, All Pakistan Urdu Debate competition at City College Hyderabad, Sindh, Pakistan in1981.
Received “Uni karians Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoom” gold medal, September, 14 1981and January, 16 1983.

SPECIAL PROJECTS
1980-2000: Introduced and perpetuated "street schools" in the slums of Karachi, part of a non-formal school system that work on a "self-help" basis. Numerous NGOs and UNESCO noted this school system.

Compiling a collection of my own critical essays on literature, culture and poetry. Putting together a second collection of poetry.
